I'd have Grieve in at 6 rather than Phillips. Phillips hits a good crash ball but Grieve's work rate is top class as is his tackling and having a 6 of his pace has got us out of trouble a few times. If you've watched the Mose highlights you'll see what I mean in our last try I think. I'd also def consider Redford over Merriman at present.

The only other changes I'd make are the centres, still not confident Eves is a starter for us. Love to see Giddens and Crockett together but at this stage in the competition we need to go with what works, especially to come back from losing to Mose.

I'd put Fats at 12 and Giddens at 13 to give Pirates something to think about.

So you would put a 10/12 at outside centre which is a position he has not played during his brief time with us???
I'm glad Hully is picking the team! cool smiley

Mine would be,

Irish
Blaney
Crompton
Winters
Budgett
Grieve
Merriman
Phillips
Spice
Jarvis
T.Arscott
Fatialofa
Eves
Robinson
L.Arscott

Johnson
Vunipola
Sambucetti
Pennycook
Shaw
Giddens
Crockett

Close call between Robbo, Tom and Dan for the wing births!

Have a feeling Giddens in not fit

15. L.Arscott
14. Robbo
13. Adams
12. Junior
11. T.Arscott
10. Jarvis
9. Spice

1. Irish
2. Blaney
3. Crompton
4. Budgett
5. Winters
6. Grieve
7. Redford
8. Phillips

16. Clarke/Thompson/Mako
17. Johnson
18. Sambo/Barry
19. Merriman
20. Shaw
21. Giddens
22. Crockett

Tarscott edges Norton because it gives us an extra goal kicker on the pitch, and Phillips starts because of form and match fitness over the last few months.

Couldn't pick the prop for the bench because I don't know whether we need a loosehead, tighthead or inexperienced talent. Sambo or Barry, again experience or youth. Crockett will be eager as hell to perform and with his experience he is a good player to bring on.

For me Eves has dropped form a little this season, even though he has played well recently I just get the feeling he is not quite there at the moment. Maybe it's just me but I just have this feeling.

Whoever plays though I just hope they play like there going to fight for every point for the full 80, give em hell boys.

C'mon Bris!!!!!!

From what I gathered Giddens can play anywhere not just 10/12. And from what I've seen of him he's got pace, a wicked step and is solid in defence. Sounds like a good 13 to me?

With Fats hitting crash balls and Giddens using his pace and footwork I think these two would make a great pairing

He's not fit anyway so I suspect we may see Fats and Adams/Eves throughout most of the playoffs, as they've played together regularly, with the introduction of Giddens and Crockett as impact subs if/when fit.

I'd go for your team Slick!

Merriman has to play - he is a non stop dynamo.
Robinson I think is in the best form I've ever seen him.

The team I would pick, but not the one I think will pla

LArscott (would be Tom if fit)
Robinson
Eves (Hope he is back to his best)
Fatialofa
Norton (Hope he can recover early season form)
Jarvis
Alford (I think he's been the best SH in his limited games)
Clark (Best scrumaging LH, and does a lot round the park)
Johnston (Probably magic if fit)
Crompton
Budgett
Sambu (Barry or Roy if fit)
Grieve
Merriman
Philips

Vunipola (offers more than Wayne, although scrum a bit weak)
Hayes
Montagu (Roy if Fit or Sambu if Barry fit)
Pennycook
Spice
Davies
Ashwyn (Not on good form at FH but can be class 10-15 cover)

Actually when you try to pick a side with a hand full of injuries it makes you realise how small out squad is now.

Both Merriman and Adams are fine attacking players - whereas Pennycook and Eves would be a better choice for a physical onslaught. Perhaps this is the gameplan - ride the early storm then bring on pace to win the match. Could this be a lesson learnt from the Moseley game?

I guess Clarke's never on the teamsheet because both he and Irish only play on the loosehead side - is that right?

Looking forward to seeing some serious, tense but hopefully still good rugby on Friday. Come on Bristol!

Looks from the Pirates' forum as if they're going for the heavy pack option - they think it's going to rain and that we won't see much of a running game - perhaps Hully's thinking the same, hence Redford over Merriman. Also sounds as if they've a substantial injury list - worse than ours.
