would spice still be in the team if he was not the captain

Would Spice still be starting if he was not the captain , it was him that let the player through near the half way line for their break right at the begining , one of many tackles he missed , his kicking is rotten , passing very slow and he is never going to be a threat around the fringes as he does not have the speed , and he walks around in the warm up and games like he has no intrest in being there , Robbie Shaw has seemed a bit rusty at times but with a bit more game time he has looked much better in recent games . Grieve has been very vocal and encoraging to the other players , next years captain i think .

Got to agree with all your comments, I was quite disappointed with his very ordinary display on Friday night, and to be honest I haven't seen him play one game yet that lives up to his reputation.
When Shaw has played he is a threat, seems very keen to get on with delivering quick ball and is always enthusiastic.

Spice for me is an ordinary player, and not a leader. I was surprised he was named captain before the season and if he wasn't captain now I don't think he would be getting so much game time.
He doesn't inspie and doesn'y boss the pack nor the game as a whole.

Grieve for captain would be good in my opinion, he looks like and plays like a leader, which Spice doesn't.

Come on Jason, prove me wrong with some real top drawer displays and driving leadership for the remaining games!

In one case I saw Spice kick the ball out on the full and all I saw was a player whos body language and attitude said he was totally disinterested! If I saw a player with an attitude like that I'd kick him out of the team!

I've seen Spice have a coupled of good games this season, but I believe he is being picked for his experience, not his form. IMHO Robbie has not shown enough to really challange given his relative lack experience.

On form, with very limited oportunities, Sam Alford should be starting at 9, but by not playing him during the season, that would now be a big risk at this stage.

I'm sorry but IMO Spice is currently our best option at Scrum Half. I can't comment on his leadership qualities, but should he be there on playing ability ? A definate yes.

Next season however, wether we go up or not, I think will prove a season to far for him and we'll need a quality replacement.

Jason Spice absolutely best scrum half. We were misiing some leadership on Friday but that was in the pack, no one stepped up there. We really missed Roy Winters.

Leadership normally comes from experience, but hey let's kill 2 birds with 1 stone and make Alford Captain.

Seems to play better when he has had a shave!

Spice is our best SC.

I agree with some of the comments above in that Spice never looks like he is interested and I think he was brought in for his experience more than anything.

He does the job i.e. digs the ball out and ferries it onto AJ, but I am yet to see some flair from him that the majority of SH's possess.

When Robbie came on he looked like a right handful, sniping his way through gaps in the defense and I think that is what we need to see. He also provides quick ball and looks very eager to keep the game flowing.

Not seen Alford play yet but from what I hear he is also one to watch.

I'd also like to echo bris4lifes suggestion about Grieve for captaincy. He's always put his body on the line and plays 110% for the badge, he's very vocal and does his bit to rally the troops. Oh and he's a bristol lad too. Think he'd have to cut down on his scuffles first to set the example (Sm151)

Spice has already signed for someone else for next season, so no real surprise he doesn't look particularly interested.

Only reason he signed for us was that he wanted to go back to NZ, but couldn't get a contract there and we were the nearest club to Cardiff to offer him a contract - convenience and a salary - nothing else.

I am told from within the club that he has signed for a French club for next season.
