just wondering how many real bristol rugby supporters would welcome the move over to either ashton gate or ashton vale or would you rather stay in north bristol.even if bristol were to get promoted to the prem do you agree that you would struggle to fill a ground with a bigger capacity (perhaps only 2/3 games a season)
yes this is a good thing for bristol but cant help thinking its all in SL plan to finally secure his stadium at ashton vale
I think in the short term the Mem will be big enough for all bar 2 or 3 games as you say. Longer term, if we are successful over a few seasons then there really is no reason why we can't be as well supported as Leicester. So I feel we need to have the ability to at some point permanently relocate to a bigger stadium - but which one that is (even a bigger Mem?) who knows. Having said that if Ashton Vale is 30K (which I believe it is) then I think that would be a ? move for us - even 15K in such a size stadium will seem a little bit lost and so we'd need to be at a 20K minimum always level (like Tigers).
I don't think it matters where we play. The Memorial Ground is our home, but simply acquiring it is not enough - it needs major work to improve it's accommodation and facilities. Not going to happen. UWE, Ashton Gate or Ashton Vale are all OK options as long as we're Bristol and we play in navy and white hoops (with letters in evidence as at present for preference). It would be nice if we are able to be seriously competitive in the Premiership and take part in the Heineken Cup as well.
I see it as,vale does not get allowed so city go with original plan to redevelop ashton there problem before i think was because of the time constraints they needed somewhere to play while the work on ashton is done, and really nowhere suitable,
with rovers off at new uwe stadium city share mem with rugby until new stadium complete, before this happens sl improves mem but hopefully keeps seat/terrace mix and evryones happy
I'm totally fed up with North/South divide unique to Bristol which is why we have no decent football teams in Bristol. Personally cannot stand Football because of this. I live near Ashton Gate/Ashton Vale and couldn't give a @#$%& where we play as long as we play and play well.
I've been told that Mr Lansdown wants to buy the Memorial Ground off the Rovers and keep the rugby there, as I myself personally would prefer. He intends to increase his financial support for the City.
I'm also informed that he is in a bidding war with Richard Branson over Filton Aerodrome with the possibility of relocating Gloucestershire CCC if they don't get planning permission to redevelop Nevil Road.
Meanwhile Dings Crusaders have signed an agreement with Bovis Homes whereby the developers search for a suitable green field site nearer to Lockleaze than Hortham Hospital. Bovis would pay for all search and design costs and are also sponsoring the club next season. Possible site? Around Filton Aerodrome.
Very interesting information William. Any truth in it do you think. If only we could keep the MG.
I'm intrigued about Glos CCC. What on earth do they want a 20k stadium for. With their usual championship crowds of two men and a dog they would look even more lost in that.
By the way Sid, I see that it's day two of the pre season friendly against Glamorgan down at Taunton. Tempted? Now that I am fully retired if I am able I could be down there more health permitting. Hope you are well.
If it was down to The fans we wOuld buy OUR stadium back ! I agree let's not bring football into the equation, let's remember we follow the team " Bristol" & wherever they play in Bristol, we will follow... As long as there are pasties & pints on sale!
Hi William. Yes I was aware that the season had already started with a friendly. I understand its the earliest ever for a match of any sort between two counties. someone asked me down for yesterday but I declined. Bit too early and too cold yet. Just as well I didn't go down judging by the standard of Somerset's batting. Lets hope they've got that out of their system before the season proper starts.
