"We are most grateful to all of you for this, which to our mind underscores very sharply what we believe to be the fundamental issue at stake here, namely that any team which demonstrates on the field of play that it has the requisite skills and resources to win through to the top of its division or playing group should be allowed to move on to the next tier thereby upholding the competitive spirit of sport in general and the ethos of promotion and relegation on merit based principles."
Dead right! I agree 100%, so let's promote the team that had the "requisite skills and resources" to "win through to the top of its division". And if that's the standard that you want to see applied, then it's not the team that finished fourth and 15 points off the top in the regular season, and then came second to the team that topped the table in the regular season.
LW's invocation of principle is a bit muddled, and does make me wonder what their case is actually based on, seeing as their public statements seem to be a call for Bristol to go up.
