Olly Robinson and Thretton Palamo have agreed loan spells, the club confirmed today.
Back-rower Robinson links up with Cardiff Blues, while Thretton Palamo joins fellow PRO14 outfit Newport Gwent Dragons on short-term deals until November.
Robinson made his first competitive outing in the victory over Richmond and Palamo has yet to appear in the Greene King IPA Championship during the 2017/18 campaign.

Does this mean that neither are in PL's immediate plans? or does he just want them to get game time in order to keep fresh for what is a long season?

I'm praying for the latter...!

Supporting Bristol since... since... Oh, not enough fingers.

Well, they are playing at a higher level than us, it's short term and they are recall-able. Itsounds like a good deal for them and for us, especially as they both play in positions in which we are relatively strong.

would be fantastic if palamo got some decent game time at that level.. he would be a hell of a player if he can catch up on 20 years of not learning basic rugby skills.

seems like a bad omen for olly but hopefully im wrong. Although it does free up more game time for thomas at 7 which i personally think is a good thing going on performances so far.

The announcement does mention that Danny Thomas (Cardiff) contacted us - so hopefully, it's an advantage to Olly.

Thretton has baffled me for some time now, he has potential by the bucket load but doesn't seam able to make that step up. Is that a lack of opportunity or skill set?? The coaches at Newport clearly see a use for him perhaps with a nudge from our Gav.
Olly ? Now that really surprised me. He's been through so many difficult times with this club and stuck with it. I would be very sorry to see him go.
So fingers crossed it works out well for both them and Bristol. Both get lots of game time & return soon from their little trip abroad

Bristol, like the glass is Blue, Bristol Blue.

They have back row crisis at Cardiff and I guess Olly and Club thought better to perhaps be in Cardiff 1st team squad each week than 2nd choice for us. He's young and needs to play.

If I may...

It seems strange for a player to start one week then go straight out on loan. If I were to guess, Pat Lam intends signing another 7. Maybe once the NZ season is over. Just my guess.

Anyway, is Olly Robinson any good over the ball? Cardiff desperately need a fit specialist 7.

IMO he's a natural with all the skills associated with good '7; he's also fast and courageous so will probably continue to take a battering or two if he plays

That's really, really odd. Made his first start two days ago now this?

And Steve, Olly is very good I think you'll be happy. Unlike us.

Says to me that we can expect Jack Lam back very soon indeed

I hate saying this, but I think Dan Thomas' lack of size will get exposed at Premiership level. Would be an absolute crying shame if Olly does go. Although I don't actually think that he will.

IMO these are great moves for Olly , Thretton and Bristol Rugby. They'll be playing in a tough league that's a step up from the Championship, and they'll have a real opportunity to show their potential. Sincerely hope they both stay with us at the end of the loan period so that we can utilise all that experience.

I will always have a huge amount of time for Olly - an absolute star on and off the pitch.

Difficult times? I'm confused. Didn't he come in post Landsdown when we became financially stable and had a spell in the prem?

Will be a shame to see him go but he knows he's no bench boy so don't blame him for looking for other opportunities.

Very surprised that Ollie is out on loan, but if he can get game time at a higher level then fair enough.

I saw Palamo playing for the A side against Bath A on Saturday & thought he had a very average game. I used to be a big supporter of his, but little progress that I can see & I fear he is not going to make it.

I cannot believe we've let Olly go out on loan. Not the biggest, but his try record is fantastic. After the balls he showed staying after his Dad left, I really hope he comes back and makes a huge success of it. Fingers crossed he comes back and tears it up.

Hmm. I fully expect the Blues to do all they can to keep him when they see him play, and so long as they can pay his way I wouldn't blame him for staying. Given the amount of first team opportunities he's getting I can see Sheedy (perhaps Edwards too) going the same way. I'd be equally annoyed at losing any of these guys.

Never understood why Palamo was retained, if you're not doing the basics right at 28 then you never will. He's flattered to deceived especially on the 7s circuit where there is more time and space and his speed and atheleticism were able to compensate. He will be caught out in the Championship never mind the Premiership.

As for Olly always thought he punched well above his weight and when he captained the side was a good leader and his rapport with the referees was probably the best of any captain since Salts. Trying to look for the positives but have a sinking feeling he may be on the way out.

Can't think of that many that come back after being loaned out. Current exception is Sheedy, but he still seems to being kept on the sidelines.

While it does give Olly game time, it sends a message about where they see him in the pecking order at the moment. Given PL's stated aim of having more young English and Bristol-born talent it seems strange that Olly has been on the sidelines while Crane has started and captained

Agree to an extent but wasn't Jordan schooled at Colston's?
