About to stop covering rugby?

As we fall into the poor benighted slough of despond that is the championship it is highly likely that no major media outlets will be covering us?

I think the Post needs to issue a statement saying what their intentions are regarding the coverage of sport , it seems crazy if they are cutting it out /down as its the main reason many of us buy the thing .
If they are pulling out I suppose that will leave us reliant on Radio Bristol for news and we know how awful they are .
Its such a shame to see how a once great paper that was read by the majority of Bristolians not so long ago has ended up in its current state .

The post have been steadily retreating from major sports coverage starting with cricket a few years ago and now rugby. No reason to read it now as the news section is just trivia. The march of the internet is changing our news habits, not always for the good.

Depending on what Steves next move is, it would be great if he or some other of his ilk created a sport blog/website covering Sport in Bristol and the region. Not sure it would be financially viable early on but start as a hobby and grow from there?
Really going to miss his reporting and was pretty much the only reason I visited BP online which led me to other news articles which generates their ad revenue.

Any budding journalists out there that happen to be huge Bristol Rugby fans and want to go to every home and away game next season as well as cover other sports in Bristol?.......... thought not! eye rolling smiley

I buy 2 papers each day The Post and The i . They both have a report on yesterdays England v Barbarians match , it is the same article word for word in both papers .
This does not bode well for how our local paper intends to cover our sport now that Steve Cotton has moved on .

Well, we don't know yet about live coverage of Bristol Rugby in the Bristol Post, but so far they doing a pretty decent job without Steve Cotton (who looks like he's doing a little freelance work - great interview with Pat Lam on Vimeo). John Evely has been providing regular articles, even though there's little in the way of real news at the moment.

not that I take much interest in the round ball game but I believe they also , as well as Steve got rid of the long serving rovers and city reporters .

Indeed they did. They now employ a City reporter, a Rovers reporter and John Evely who is described as a sports reporter. However, he's done a decent job so far. He moved here from the East Midlands where he did reporting on the Tigers for a local paper (not in Leicester though, I think.)

At the time they got rid of those reporters, everyone understandably thought that there would be a massive drop in quantity and quality of reporting in line with similar cost-saving measures at other regional papers. But so far that doesn't seem to have been the case. I'm just left confused as to why they got rid of Steve and Co, given they seem to have replaced every position and so far there's no reduction in coverage. Puzzling

Dunno. Maybe new people doing more for less.

Post, along with most regional media, a pale shadow of what it was. Internet, innit.

The Post is seemingly now a bunch of journalism graduates trawling Twitter, Facebook & Buzzfeed for clickbait which then gets reposted.
