Looks like we're definitely in the market for locks at the moment

Jim Hamilton said on rugby pod podcast that he had heard that both Gray brothers may be signed by Bristols next season

Thoughts ?
In the last 2 weeks we've been linked with mostert, stooke, gray, gray

Don't know who you are APPLES but it's props we need, not locks

I don't know who you are either gran (this is an online forum after all)

but I do agree with you

However do think that a bit more bulk in the engine room might help out too!!! Having good scrummaging second rows makes a massive difference to what the front rows performance looks like!!! Therefore seems strange we let tuhoy go on loan...

As much as I'd like this to be more than just hearsay, I think that is all it can be.

Players out of contract this season will be wanting to tie up deals in the early new year and its this kind of speculative talk that will bump the monies.

As above, I also question the need for more locks? Front row - yes, scrum half - yes, but locks we have an abundance of. Nice position to be in though!

Supporting Bristol since... since... Oh, not enough fingers.

Don't particularly believe this rumour but I do see the need for at least 1 heavy duty lock for next season looking at what we currently have a couple of younger guys with potential which of our current locks would make any premiership starting 15.

I think the only prem lock we have is touhy, and at his age he'll give us 10-14 games. Sam Jeffries is young but good.

Bately, latta, Joyce are all depth.

If we're serious about champ cup rugby we need two quality locks.

Not quite as negative about our front row as I think our scrummaging issues are as much s cond row related as front row.

Bevington and Cortes are as good a 1/3 combo as most prem teams.

Why does speculative talk boost eventual salaries?

Human nature isn't it? Create a lot of hype around someone throw in the name of a big spending club and the target club feels obliged to up the ante in order to secure the player -no?

It's not either or, Gran. You'll have noticed, surely, that we've struggled in both positions this season when the first choice guys are injured.

Despite being loaded thanks to Lansdown, we still need to fit into the salary cap next year and I assume we have a lot of very expensive players (apart from the wildcard Charles Piatau and Steve Luatua). Madagan for one will be on a lot of cash so we need to maximise the cap.
For me, unless youíve got athletic world beaters like Itoje or Lawes, Lock is a position that isnít worth massive money signings. Much better to spend big money on the front row, 6,7, 8, 9 and 10.

Wee bit thin skinned there benny. It's a site that will display any manner of views and counter-views. I've been around a few years and still attract the odd sharp response to a post. Or, worse still, no response at all! So it's unlikely that some of your views are disagreed with simply because you're new around here. Just keep on posting is my advice.
