okay ok, maybe mixing a little what I am trying to say , is that I went to a game confident we would win not only at the Mem but away but who on current performances can honestly say off to ashton Gate to watch Bris v Wasps for example having any confidence we would win, in those days I am talking no side phased us and we had hope each game, IMHO I wouldn't hold any hope against any Prem side even with the new signings I just hope I am very wrong in my thinking.

I'm really sorry to be negative, but this all feels like the same old same old to me. New broom, but same old bluster and the same old weaknesses.

I want to believe!

Slightly disagree with this statement. When we had Perry sniping, Dan W-S and Dave Hill at

their best we had plenty of threat close in and that opened up space out wide for Lemi & Horse.

Where it started to go wrong was Dan W-S getting injured, Perry getting close to England but then losing form and, IMO, the crowd getting onto Dave Hill if he missed a kick which ultimately affected his general play. Once we'd lost the threat close in we were too easy to defend against.

Don't disagree although dws and Dave hill were recruited after the initial year back in the prem. Iirc.

Where it all went wrong, and I was a bit closer to the consortium funding the club than the current management, was bluntly David White thinking the club had very deep pockets and spending shedloads outside building a core team. The consortium had limited funds and when Dave Powell said to the evening post at the time that the club needed 9k crowds to pay the bills and was only getting 7k he meant it and there were not the pockets then of the 'white knight' in the background.

The vicous circle of poor signings, lack of money, moss losses, lower crowds, even less money, took hold.

The big difference now is that with proper funding we have been able to weather the disaster of years in the wilderness, promotion then immediate relegation without imploding.

WOW! Really surprised at the negativity here (Although glad to see some try to balance it out!).

Going to try and address some of the negativity from my perspective and not apologising for the length of the post.

GAMEPLAN - Whilst I agree the team are trying to play too much inside their own third, we have seen a dramatic enhancement on the attacking structures this year. The skill levels are generally higher and the players generally seem to be understanding their role in the attack. Many of these players had been under coached in attack under Idiot Robinson. Lam, who takes charge of attack, has had to work from a base point where players were 2-3 years behind current attacking thinking.

DEFENCE - Whilst we have still leaked more points than any of us are comfortable with, we have seen a improvement in the intensity of the defence, the coming off the line and physicality. Yes, we still drop off too many tackles, but what I see is an improving picture, the odd game not withstanding.

COACHING TEAM - Lam recently took over Defence whilst JT and Irish took over the forwards. I think we need an established Defence and Forwards coach for next season. I also think we need a scrum specialist. AFoa alone cannot anchor the scrum. Thacker is not known for his scrummaging (though the signing is exciting) and Malton is 4th choice at Exeter.

PLAYERS - Still so many gaps. We don't yet have an experienced premiership operator at Lock or 9. Loosehead needs better quality, 2nd row needs a gnarly operator, we need an 8 (and Luatua is not going to play there), we need a QUALITY centre and one more winger as a bare minimum. Lam now needs to show us he can convince more quality to join us when the mega bucks aren't on offer.

SUPPORTERS - we've been through hell. But, if we don't buy into Lam's vision then how can we criticise the performance of those who live it day in day out?

Sorry, but if we don't buy into the vision we can't criticise it? I'm really struggling with that idea.

What's really worrying is that after a poor start against Harpbury we had been steadily improving game on game up until Mid December after which we started to go backwards game by game, culminating in last weeks shambles. I have no idea why this has happened but we need to reverse it quickly or there will be no Premiership for us to worry about as Ealing are nit going to back off.

In response to Gary_Lensman

And that's totally okay because it's your view. I just feel negativity breeds negativity. Rome wasn't built in a day and turning an under coached side into a European Cup team will take years. Look at how Newcastle have struggled for years, built and built and the last 2 years have really been on the up. We can't do what Exeter did, so need to view them as a more realistic story. In my opinion.

There are many variables to why we have seen improvement in some areas and gone backwards in others.

The tight five area has been an issue since we lost to Worcester in the playoffs IMO, many are still here and if you look at whos out of contract in the summer, you'll find its made up of our current forward options.....I hope they are still motivated, if you know what I mean?

We are missing Vui big time, his support play, ball in hand and passing is so effective and everything needed in a modern forward!

Pat is trying to develop this team, but some are obviously not up to it, but getting class players into a championship side was always going to be tough.

It's been said all season but every game is like a cup final to the rest of the teams and to get to this stage of the season with one loss is still pretty amazing.

We are not promoted yet, and the work and turn over of staff has been immense, let's judge Pat fully once he has his own complete coaching team and set of players, because believe it or not, he's no where near the squad of players he probably want at this moment in time.

I can't think of a good reason why not.

I think as we reflect on the events of the last week, especially those players leaving and what must have been going on behind the scenes, it is hard to see how all of this cannot have affected morale and preparation for last Sunday.

Add to that the swift departune of Bakewell, who has got Leicester forwards back on track with three great wins since he joined, I expect there is uncertainty and distractions galore.

Everything being done is necessary in preparation for the Prem if we succeed in going up, I just wonder if some of the personnel changes have been too quick and too soon after the win at Ealing.

It is not a done deal yet and I will be supporting the team as much as I can as we get closer to hopefully winning the league.

I was one of the few who repeatedly said that our set piece problems were not of bakewell's making. Cortes is about our only decent scrummaging option in our front five and he's been unavailable for most of the season.
