New Shirt Sponsor for the City
SparkyBris (IP Logged)

So years into a 4 year sponsorship deal, Lancer Scott have stepped aside to allow a new international sponsor to be on the Bristol City Shirts from next season - who, will be announced on Friday.

BCFC Linky

Whats the odds that it'll be the same sponsor to go on our shirts too? Any guesses? or some informed knowledge from someone who's Nan knows the postie of a former scaffolder who once met someone who knew one of the staff on the coffee kiosk?

Supporting Bristol since... since... Oh, not enough fingers.

I'd wager a fiver that they are the same - Friday is also the day we officially become the Bear's!

Are Hofmeister still brewing beer (if you can call what they produced beer) - could be them if so?

There’s a big rumour on the City forum that an Asian online betting company will be the new shirt sponsor, and its worth megabucks.

I've got to say, if it is an international type sponser then that's some very good business. If it is linked to our footy friends then surely it's to do with the exposure from beating Man Utd and the Bears rebrand?

That would be a BIG concern and I doubt has much basis.

Remember CF_Doom this is about City shirt sponsorship only as far as we know. Nothing to say any money coming our way from it or that it has anything to do with us from Saturday being Bristol Bears ( who may or may not be an ice hockey team)

If that's correct then I'd find that quite concerning as I am struggling to think of anywhere in Asia, except maybe (?) Hong Kong, where online betting is legal.

Macau, Philippines, does India count?

I think in some Asian counties whilst it's illegal to use or run an online gambling website which is based in the country, it is not illegal to use one based in another such as the Philippines or UK. I may be wrong though, I am hardly an expert and don't really gamble online.

It is Dunder...

Apparently a Maltese based Swedish gaming company with 25 employees.

City fans already speculating if they will now be known as Dunderheads........

Most online gaming companies are Maltese-based due to fairly light-touch regulation of the industry over there.

Would we ever get angry about a shirt sponsor? I can't say I'd be very happy with a betting firm, and I remember Newcastle United fans being upset about a

sponsorship deal with wonga (payday loans). In my professional life (ha ha) I've just seen BAE withdraw from a sponsorship of an arts festival due to concerns about the arms trade. I thought that was nonsense, as BAE provide good jobs and good opportunities in places that would otherwise miss them.

A betting firm though, I'd be really uncomfortable with - even if it did open up opportunities in far eastern audiences.

I don't personally see it as any different from a beer sponsor, as its down to the individual how much or how little they use it.

I would imagine that alcohol ruins more lives directly and indirectly than gambling does.

I'd be very unhappy were Bristol to be sponsored by a betting firm. Of course, most people can gamble responsibly. Whether gambling companies promote themselves responsibly is another matter altogether.
