Diving if you think about it is brought about by bad refereeing
If fouls were punished there would be no need to go down easy
The same goes for the actual dive if it was punished they wouldn't do it
They've got this system now (can't remember what it's called - sort of a TMO I think) where they can review incidents. I think they would review a dive if it was 'important' eg looking for a penalty.
Just on TMOs, the TMO seemed to be used for the Boks match on Saturday on two occasions where I'm not used to seeing them used. The last was to check if Hughes had knocked the ball out of de Klerk's hands. I thought the TMO was used only for foul play or any infringement (forward pass, off side foul play etc) linked to a try being scored (though not going back more than 2 phases).
If they could have checked that Hughes thing then what's to stop at each break in play the ref going back to last ruck to see if anyone was offside (which they invariably are - hugely in the U20s RWC)?
hooter Perhaps they should review all diving incidence,s and send players off ,it would soon stop it, same with crowding around the referee.
Needs to happen in rugby, it's slowly creeping in to our game and should be a card offence. Rugby is too physical to lose it's integrity, it's starting to undermine the whole game.
Well Harry Kane was the victim of two amazing off-the-ball rugby tackles that would have got a Rugby player yellow carded for sure - but the ref/TMO didn't even award a free kick!
Have to say I was impressed with the way he just got up and got on with it after and spoke about it after the match in a matter-of-fact way. Don't think the average Rugby player would have been that tolerant of such blatant fouls.
Their rule around contact with the goalie are even worse than our playing the man in the air law. That free kick they gave to the white team when that chappie in red touched him was quite frustrating. I'm not a huge fan of the game any more, but to be fair there wasn't as much diving as there was when I used to watch it (which ultimately killed my enthusiasm for the game). They should still cite dives post match and use the TMO to adjudge potential high stake tackles.

What amazed me (in the 20 mins I watched at the end) was the reaction of the players every time there was a relatively heavy tackle made. They all stopped! Waited for the ref, then when it became obvious that there was to be no whistle, carried on.
