George Smith set to extend his short contract

The 38-year-old flanker joined Pat Lams Bears as injury cover in June but has since started every Premiership game.

He will continue his run against Worcester today before Lam hopes to finalise a new deal with the veteran.

Were going through it at the moment and hope to sort something in the coming days, Lam told The Mail on Sunday. The quality he still has at his age is amazing. His input has been superb

Great news. Give him a retainer and then pay as you play. Maybe hell decide to settle down as a coach.
