Anyone heard any rumours that Sale will be playing at Leigh RLFC next season? Contacts at Leigh at say that negotiations are well advanced. Hopefully these rumours are unfounded as getting there from Congleton on a Friday night will be a complete pain: M6, no trains etc.

I do hope not.

Assuming we stuck to evening kick-off then I'd have to leave home at 1615 hrs and get back home at 0005 hours or, if the game runs even just a little late, at 0510 with over an hour of walking thrown in.

But at least their address is Sale Way! grinning smiley

I know we made arrangements to play there in the HEC if EP was unplayable.

I assume that a refund on pre-paid season tickets would apply if we move to Leigh Swanny? The M56 is bad enough on a Friday night but the M6 and the Thelwall viaduct - I don't think so.

I heard this in the Gym (FX in Lowton) this morning from a mate of mine who I played Union with at Leigh RUFC. He told me who he had got the info off, but it would be best if I didn't comment. Rang my brother, he confirmed he had also heard a similar thing.

From what I can gather the rumours are coming from the Leigh Area and not South Manchester

From a personal view its only 15 minutes walk from my front door, a little longer if I call in the two pubs on the way.

Cant see this happening at all, why would we move from a ground the club through CS own with excellent travel links to a stadium miles away in Leigh with no public transport links at all..........

One scenario might be if we were to be relegated and if EP were to be re-developed next season and capacity therefore reduced to less than 5k (say) during the re-building.

If we were to stay up would we be allowed to change to a stadium with less than 12k capacity?

Edited for poor typing.

Maybe common sense will ensue, and we will cease to play friday nights?

Jones has talked about playing some games at the weekend, due to disadvantages, if playing games sunday, then friday.

Have we ever won on a Friday night with the short turnaround from Sunday previous?

I personally hope we don't end up too far out of Manchester/Stockport as both places do have the excellent transport links without negotiating too much horrendous traffic. My daughter qualifies as a physiotherapist in ten weeks and it looks like she will be living near Beverley (Yorks) and I may be moving to be near her. Can still attend Edgeley Park or Manchester area if I do as there are trains from Hull but I don't know if I would be able to get to Leigh without driving and, I'm sorry, Hull - Leigh - Hull would be too much for most people to drive in one night, especially in winter using the M62 then country roads.

My favourite suggestion to date has been Eastlands if the redevelopment plans could include us. Even if I move to East Yorkshire, I could still attend home games as I would stay overnight for free with my Auntie who lives around the corner from there. I know it sounds selfish, but...

perhaps the redevelopment of EP is a likely explanation, and Leigh offers a good alternative whilst we have the builders in???

Bristol were once going to move to Wales if I remember - at Leigh is in the same country!

Just a thought...

Yep, and I was there too with James Jennings. I was invited down to have a look around and asked BK and James if they wanted to go to.

Come to Chester, with a huge amount of room to expand the Ex Chester City Football Club stadium is empty (6000 at present.) Easy to get to, M6, M56 ,M53 good duel carrigeway ring road around Chester. Absolute moidah in the city centre though (built for chariots not the motor car). (Sm100)

Cumbria, I think that is the deciding factor. We stay an EP.grinning smiley

Pistols at dawn then lone shark?

Chester would be handier for me: for iBozz camping is available at the Roodee, or the Greyhound Park if he prefers his four legged animals to be smaller.

I say Sale should come to Leicester, great travel links with the M1, M6/69, its in the middle of the country, 20 minutes walk from my house, and there are no other large teams so to speak in the local vicinity lol (Sm6)

No no Dave, not EP- we definitely need a move to Chester, plenty of parking at the ground and camping space for iBozz, though we would let him use our spare room on matchday nights anyway as well as AAS & Col in the other spare room -- um b & b, now there's an idea.!!(Sm159)

Seriously though, thanks for that very positive negative Swanny.(Sm108)

I beginning to doubt that sharing with a Rugby league team would be at all practicable.
At least sharing with another winter sports club there are 2-3 months respite during the growing season for ground drainage re-turfing or re-seeding to be carried out.
If we shared with a superleague club and the ground got into a similar state, when and how could any remedial works be carried out?
Some years the weather just destroys the pitch.

a colleague is a Leigh STH - we discussed this today and she was explaining the set up of "Leigh Sports Village".

Maybe it's time to resurrect the SMBC/SCFC/SSRUFC shared enterprise discussions.
Bonus is that we wouldn't need to move.
Council donates cash and any land required, compulsory purchase of the bungalow and the labour club. Plenty of space the enlarge the playing area etc. etc.

Two spare rooms? Did you get a skip in then or would people have to ignore my old junk all over the place?

I vote for somewhere with good rail links to St Pancras, that way I might stand a chance of getting to a home game on a half day Friday instead of having to take a whole day off whenever I come back (Sm12)
