Sale v Newcastle on-line commentaries 2012 03 30 @ 2000

I had a chat with The Man From Uncle, at Heywood Road, last night.

Well, OK, The Man From Auntie (and if that makes sense to you then you're older than you admit) and he was telling me that BBC Radio Manchester carry an on-line commentary from every home game. Indeed, I had heard this from large and Swanny in the past but, alas, I have repeatedly failed to find the link and eventually stopped looking. If it appears on the BBC Rugby Commentaries summary page then I list it, but if it isn't there I [personally] can't find it.

At a slight tangent, before we begin; In the TV programme NCIS, one of the team once asked Gibbs "What did Ducky look like when he was younger?" and the answer came "Exactly like Illya Kuryakin" - and if you understand that then you must be as old as me!

But I digress.

The Man From Auntie has undertaken to have a word, on our behalf, with those in the know and get back to me with information as to where I can find the home game link and I shall be happy to include that in the weekly(ish) round up in future.

BBC Radio Manchester won't be providing commentary this week as it is an away match, and on air appear to favour our potential bedfellows Salford Reds, so we are reduced to ...

Audio 1: BBC Radio Newcastle Sport - you'll need Flash enabled

Audio 2: BBC Radio Newcastle Media Player

Internet radio users will need the following URL in their favourites remembering, as ever, to remove the space between the colon and slashes ...

http: //www.bbc.co.uk/englandcms/livestreams/int10.asx

Other commentary sources could be

Audio 3: MatchCentreLive

Audio 4: MatchDayLive

Our resident wise old televisual sage, Olyy, has told me that there is no video from this game, so we come to the rump of the possibilities, text media of one sort or another.

Tweet 1: @salesharksMEN - Neil Leigh. Manchester Evening News.

Tweet 2: @salesharksrugby - Sale Sharks Official feed.

Tweet 3: @MickTheMove - Mick Collins.

Tweet 4: @Roger_Bowen - Roger Bowen.

I'm not sure of MickTheMove or Roger_Bowen do match commentaries but, as no-one has ever told me whether they do or not I've left them there just in case.

And now into areas where I do not venture:

Facebook 1: Sale Sharks' official Facebook pages

And The Iffy, but I'm never sure whether they do anything these days and i have been unable to find out - sorry. Sayings involving hiding, light, under and bushel spring to mind again.

The Iffy 1: Where John Everton is hopefully providing news updates throughout the evening.

The Iffy 2: Stephen Thomas may be posting website updates.

Not The Man From Auntie, I now understand, but The Man From The RFU - my apologies to him and both organisations!

Nevertheless, he did offer to plumb the depths of the labyrinthine BBC Radio Manchester website (can one plumb depths of labyrinths?) for us and, as he seemed a Scholar and a Gentleman (I can be a sycophant when needed!), I can only assume that he will do so.

Not that I'm implying, mind, that RFU men are less honest than journalists, of course ...

I think I'll stop digging and call it quits! grinning smiley

Even later edit: I now learn that he is also a part time rugby expert for Auntie, so I was partly right! Isn't life complicated?

Audio 1 & 2 are both up playing music right now.

However my new bestest friend from Auntie RFU says that at least Audio 1 will work so it looks as if we can listen on either, or on the internet radio URL, which is the same as Audio 2.

If you are up in the north east, the old steam wireless will be on DAB and 1458AM.

If we win we're in to the top 6, and will stay there if Glaws lose vs Wasps.

Would like to see Exeter win (I think top 4 is beyond us, but not beyond them, so don't begrudge them moving away from us if they can push their way in to the playoffs), Bath win (even if it will close the gap - I'd like to see Chiefs overtake Saints) - Would like Gloucester to lose, just so we overtake them (if we can hold on to this lead), but don't think it'll happen (I also like Gloucester, so don't particularly want them to lose - it'd also pretty much kill any Falcons chances of staying up).

Don't know what to think....defensively we sound better. Giving away to many pens....scored three tries but how bad is Falcons defense? Bottom line is that winning away against Falcons is not easy....I think it is going to be a nervy second half...first score is going to be important....

Sounds like a bad injury for Nick - Stretcher on and all.

Miller to 10, Addison to 15? Or would Frank drop back and Will to 11?

Edit: Scrap that, Neil Leigh got the player wrong, it's Miller going off. So Cueto to 15, Addison to the wing?

Presumably Tuculet back in to the 23 if Miller is out next week.

The commentary was reasonably fair and accurate. Judging by that I thought Vernon wasn't in it, Seymour marginal, Powell a liability. Myall fairly anonymous and Gaskell faded badly. If easter came on i didn't hear his name.

Newcastle had just enough gumption to drive it up and that's where we struggle.

I can't understand why Sheridan was taken off and Buckley left on unless there were injuries.

Lack of leadership, nous, tactical substitutions and perhaps , fitness. Newc much stronger at the end.We simply can't clear our lines.

as I said a few months ago - budgies with experience at side stepping the yawning trap door makes them very, very hard to beat unless you're really "on your game"
I think I also said we wouldn't get any more wins this season - how I hope that doesn't come to pass

Well done Newcastle - I really hope they beat the drop

Words like nail and head come to mind Mrs T.

Our liberal sprinkling of Internationals and B&I Lions do not seem to have any desire or influence when things start to go wrong.

Perhaps desire is the quality I see most lacking in recent games I have seen. Perhaps we kid ourselves or are being kidded about the actual quality of our squad.

And we six too OSII.

After going for a 3 season deal, I did, at the start of this season, think that the wait was showing signs of being worthwhile.

As we currently sit together in the Printerland stand, and assuming we would not be able to afford to sit at Barton (only the sides have seats), and, as I assume that all standing has to be non-reserved, we would definitely cherry pick if we did move, despite the arrival of some very exciting players next season.

Sale's second half syndrome strikes again!! I think we will probably remain in 7th place after tomorrow as I can't see Bath or Irish winning their games, but Glos. may well move further away from us. Can someone refresh my memory as to the number of places available to English teams in the HC as Tigers are already there by winning the LV?

After two/three pitiful seasons we had seemed to turned it around at the beginning of this one but we're appeared to be back to square one again.
Something is still not working and still believe on field that a change in Captain to either Seymour or even Powell would help.

I think it's 7 now due to Tigers win but if we remain 7th not sure we deserve to be in the HC given again our inconsistent season in the AP & Amlin Cup games.
I would rather we concentrated in getting better on field before looking at HC qualification.

Wonder if we'll get "changes across the field" for real now?

I still think we should mix things up a bit/a lot, just to shake things up. Maybe a shock to the system will get us winning again, or at least playing more than 40 minutes (Sm105)

Next game I'd like to see:

1. Sheridan
2. Ward (Nothing against Jones, but I'd like to see Ward get a start)
3. Cobilas
4. Ostrikov (Holmes if injured)
5. Myall
6. Vernon
7. Auva'a
8. Powell
9. Willis
10. MacLeod (Miller if injured)
11. Amesbury
12. Tuitupou
13. Addison
14. Brady
15. Miller (Tuculet if he's flyhalf)

16. Taylor
17. Dickinson
18. Harrison
19. Holmes
20. Seymour (nothing against Seymour, just would like to see Auva'a used again - though wouldn't mind Auva'a on the bench)
21. Peel
22. Burrell
23. Tuculet (if not starting - Cueto if he is)

What have we got to lose? (apart from HEC qualification, I know, but the way we're playing it's looking like we may slip out of that zone soon anyway).

Will that team be playing in emerald green?

Well I sat here halfway through the game thinking "try bonus win on the way." I bet the team were thinking that too and believed that it was job done.

Still, let's be positive we got one point, so it's unlikely London Irish will be ahead of Sale at the end of play.

Don't know really. That will have to be a decision made by a committee of CEO, DoR and Head Coach.

RE Olyy's team the only problem with playing Auva'a is that he won't be with us next season so don't see the point in playing him.
There does seem to be a lack of leadership at times on the pitch and the team just a bit all over the place, especially in terms of discipline
Gotta say, on and off the pitch, Sale are the laughing stock of the prem right now

If my twitter feed is anything to go by, if you went to Newcastle you probably got home quicker that those who were at the Salford match.

Looks like the club want to give us lots of time to ponder our inability to play 80 minutes of rugby next season.

maybe we cant play for 90 mins nbecause the same guys are playing 80mins week in week out. Perhaps they're knackered.

Lack fo changes was a major selection error in my view. No one was punished for performing poorly of late. No one from outside the squad has had the chance to acquire match fitness since there havent been any jets games either. And the side doesnt neccessarily represent the best we have given evidence from the likes of addison, Tuculet, Auvaa etc earlier in the season. The usual positive and negative incentives dont seem to be in operation at Sale, and the result seems to be complacenty and unrest. Not totally surprising since there seem to be clear favourites and many who can reasonably claim to be unfairly denied opportunity.

Very disappointing result and performance all round this one.
