Woodley. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the defence against Falcons, it was excellent. The problem stemmed from too many pens and not a lot ball. The way we defended was a vast improvement on Sarries. I saw a stat last night that Newcastle haven't lost in there last 5 at home and I think we've only won once there. The fact they're fighting for the lives makes them even harder to beat there. I left the ground not too disappointed in the performance I saw. A 7 point swing isn't exactly a capitulation, it's one score. A game which is balanced by this margin can always go either way. If we had blown a 15 point lead I could understand calling it pathetic but you are wildly exaggerating the situation Border. If we had a kicking game which enabled us to play a bit of field position and keep the ball away from our try line we would have won last night. Or perhaps more importantly if we were a bit more disciplined we would have certainly won. We are not as bad as Border suggests certainly
Just to correct dh651, we gave away a ten point lead (sale were 19-9 up at one point just before the half)
Whatever way you look at it, Sale only have themselves to blame.
Giving away 5 kickable penalties is in no way acceptable, we negated our 3 tries. The ill discipline has simply shifted from defence to giving away penalties.
