What the hell!! Championship standard. Line out throws, knock ons, missed tackles Tarus scrummaging poo, missed tackles. Jones throw ins!! missed tackles. Can't kick conversions. It's so poor. Top three my @#$%&!! Bottom 3 probably. And I am being polite. Feel so sorry for anyone who has travelled to support!!

Rubbish as we've been, I don't think it needed a new thread though. Join in the hand wringing on the Team v Quins thread.

If I can politely segway this thread, in terms of where we were last year, our form is the same.

13pts after 6 rounds this season and last.

The difference is that this last we had a draw to replace a loss this year, however we've scored 11 more tries this season than at the same point last year.

Something positive to gleam i guess.

Doesn't matter if you score 4 if you are shipping 5 or 6 at the other end

Well it shows that at least we have the attacking ability, rather than none.

its a telling stat Irish.

We are a better attacking team and an utterly incompetent defensive one.

The same as last year, albeit we had conceded 14pts less at this juncture last season.

yep, we couldnt defend then either.

But just look how much we've adjusted since then? We no longer get driven routinely from the maul, we rarely give away penalties for poor tackling technique and were almost never caught narrow.

Meant to say we conceded less last year

The other thing that's hard to know is how the change to ruck rules affects our defence.

I travelled, still here in fact. I feel that we are on the threashold of something good. Not felt like this for a number of years. Don't need sympathy had a great time. I'm prepared to accept all you say. We got a BP away from home . Job done

We've got see-saw reactions at the moment, no one was bemoaning Sale last week, the complete opposite in fact.

However stats don't lie I grant you that, we've shipped far too many points and giving away cheap tries at times. So yes the defensive edge to our game is a worry. But I'd agree with Buelligansmate in some regards, I think we've got a better squad that can play exciting rugby, we've just got to plug the gaps in the other end. I'd have wanted more though from last night, 2-points minimum.

The first half was a coach killer, these are top class rugby players who for whatever excuse seamed to have a collective rush of @#$%& to the brain. There is an old saying about "Out of the negative" You can't coach that kind of Hari Kari rugby, the look on Sam James face after the charge down summed up the first half perfectly.
Time to move on, a disappointment yes but A BP and 4 tries, and an iffy 5th try!
Looking forward to the game next Week thumbs down

I certainly wasn't bemoaning it but I did say in response to a point from Swanny that games like that happen from time to time. I'm not sure of my exact words (and with the poor search function on sportsnetwork I can't find the post. I said to a friend in the week that the problem with the big win, when every scoring opportunity is taken, is that it is often balanced by the game when all chances are scorned and so the game is lost.

Every-so-often, out of the blue, there will be a big win or a big defeat which is out of kilter with what should happen, either in the game itself or a season as a whole. That win was a one off (which may, of course, happen again). The away defeats form a recurring theme, or perhaps nightmare would be the better word.

Very true Dave, the Gloucester result wasn't reflective of our current position. Saying that I do think we have some really good players, but a lot of new players have arrived and still the mind set about winning away continues which therefore points towards a coaching/management issue.

I wouldn't disagree with that analysis. (What I would disagree with, when early season form is poor, is the claim sometimes made by coaches or supporters that the players are new to each other and need a while to bed in. Most teams have pretty much the same turnover. With many contracts often being just 2 or 3 years there is about one third of the playing staff who are new every season.)

Dave. Very true it is an overused excuse. However, we have a new 8/9/10 so key positions rather than having a few new wingers etc.

Another over used excuse is the weather. Unless there is significantly different weather at one end of the pitch than at the other, (Ive only ever seen that once when the Railway End at EP was having heavy rain whilst we in the Printerland enjoyed dry conditions for a while) or a strong and/or gusty wind suddenly stops at half-time, the weather affects both sides equally.

The excuse should thus be We dont know how to,play in these conditions but they did - and we are back to coaching and mindset.

I am almost happy with a bonus point, as long as we get some points in the road every week and win all our home games it will be a good season, 60 plus points in the table would put us top half. The thing I can't get my head around is how different the performance can be, home and away, I could understand it if we travelled to the other side of the world, but a three hour bus journey shouldn't cause a major issue! If it is the case that the prep and planning is different home and away, it generally works for home matches but doesn't for away. So why not change it for away games! Am I missing something . I just can't understand why we have a lesser attitude to away matches. If anything this season is emphasizing the fact that any side can win any game if the planning prep and team are right.

Come on Sale, home to Toulouse next week, let's get it right, lets have s good win( if anyone can't win on the road it's the French) and set up a challenge in the Challenge Cup!!!! Put a competitive side out, rest those that need it play those that need game time , but don't put a side of children out.

Ibozz the weather being the same for both sides is different from it having a larger impact on some. We are a good weather side which worries me over winter when you need a gnarly pack and controlling half backs.

Top 6 last week. Championship this week. We need to get some perspective I think. We are neither. There are certainly 2 if not 3 worse sides than us. There are certainly 6 better, more consistent sides than us. Most teams will blow hot and cold at various points of the season.

Indeed, clutch, thats the point I was trying to make. We should be able to play in all weathers, rugby is an all weather sport and other Clubs manage it far better than do we.

Surely the title of this thread is way too pessimistic. We have scored the second highest points for in the table, and there are 3 teams below us in the points against. We sit equi distant championship points from the top place and he relegation spot..... which is about where I expect us to more or less end up next May

Just about to post the same...oh and Wasps are on the same points against.

If we had beaten Newcastle we would be 6th tonight. So winning all our home games could get us a top 6th finish if we pick up losing/try bonus points.

And looking at some other results there must be a few teams with chamopinship form.

Definitely moving in the right direction...a season or two ago we wouldn't have scored those try and losing points and we would be a lot worse off....

We've got some work to do but we're no way a Championship side. The Premiership is throwing up some interesting results and will continue to do so. I never thought we'd be above Wasps after six games.

May be pessemistic or realistic. For the past don't know how many years we hear the preseason chat "we are good enough to be top 4, we have good youngsters and made great signings" usually from DOR and key players.... reality is there are always 2/3 teams worse than us so actually we will finish 8/9/10th.

Apart from when we dont. Like two seasons ago. When we were 6th.

Id need to check to be 100% but Prem games against Quins fee to me like they are often won by the home team so before the game Idve taken a BP. Two wouldve been better obviously and in hindsight feels possible but as other have said, 60 points (c50 points at home and c10 on the road) should give us a top half finish.
