Secondary Euro competition versus the glamour of a big name foreign team so could go either way. I'll go 4500

I've checked back through the records, M5, but I'm not sure that we played Toulouse on Friday, 13th October 2000.

If you mean Friday, 13th October 2017, then I'll go for 1861*3 = 5583 as there is bound to be one extra who only turns up when Mrs Trellis is awol.

I believe the 2000 refers to the kick off time not the year....

An extraordinary coincidence, then that there was a Friday, 13th October 2000!

I can`t imagine that Toulouse will bring many fans - maybe a plane load who have not been to Manchester before. On the other hand, the club always count all the season ticket holders many of whom (including me) will not be there. No-one gets excited by this competition. So.................

I do. Some of my favourite Sale memories are from our first Parker pen win, including the game against Glos at Franklin Gardens where I maintain we produced a 20 min spell of attacking rugby that I've never seen matched. Would absolutely love to get hold of a copy of that game!...

Ditto. Can anyone get hold of a copy. I hold the PP win far more dearly than the League winning season for example. The second time we won was a bit naff, against Pau. Somewhat of a one sided affair, livened up by seeing Titterrell getting lifted in the lineout for the first time ever. Weird memory to retain from that game.

3500 considering going, will be first one since cancelling my season ticket, but unless I drive, which don't really want to, it will be a nightmare getting home.
I only live in Cheadle but it's to late to get on Stockport bus and the other option via public transport are crap

Maybe not his time. We're lucky, or unlucky whichever way you look at it ! in being drawn against two top French teams in the group stages. Hopefully will put bums on seats more than this competition usually does.

We're playing arguably the biggest name in European rugby who had a bad season last year but are back to their best this season lying in 2nd place in the Top 14. They won't bring many supporters but this is the standout fixture of the whole season if you are a north west residing rugby supporter thinking of going go to a live match. Added to that this is the cheapest ticket category of the season. If Sale don't get a crowd of 7,000 tonight there is something seriously wrong.

Hate to disagree but you'd have to argue quite hard to convince me about Toulouse being the biggest name in Europe. Toulon, Clermont and the Parisian teams have been a far greater draw for many a year. Toulouse have had one quarter final in the last 5 seasons.

Iím still undecided about going, will wait for traffic and weather reports closer to KO.

A generous 4,716

I'm not sure that anyone is that big a draw at the moment.

Another big problem with the early games of cup competitions (in several sports) is that they are seen as a distraction to the main business, the league. Many teams, therefore, pick weakened sides with the result that supporters get 'wise' and gates are usually lower than they should be.

(Our team of four made a collective decision, which was to go to the Caldy-Plymouth game tomorrow afternoon. I might still make a late decision to travel this evening, but it's not too likely.)

Ale, being the biggest name doesn't necessarily mean the most recent success. Of the names you mention only Toulon could arguably be described as a bigger name likely to be a bigger draw for a neutral. Toulouse have won the most Champions Cups, the most domestic trophies and all this consistently over the years. They have a much greater rugby heritage and glamour attached to their name.

Proof in point, Leicester City have won the Premiership more recently than Manchester United but which of the two would attract the neutral to a match?

Within five, I'll take that !smiling smiley

Delighted to see the crowd has gone up almost a thousand since the opening game on the season, nearly an 18% increase.

When he roadworks are completed I'd like to think we can attract circa 6.5K crowds before the season's out.
