I'm making one of my rare trips over to the AJBell with my wife, parents and little one year old boy. This surge in crowd numbers means my guess will be:

6811 + 5 = 6816

6,123.

Neither of Grunpy's two guesses are going to be correct. What is strange is that his (and others too) perception is that Sale are now quoting a lower figure than actually attend. It wasn't so long ago that most were saying that it was the other way round

The conspiracy theorists might suggest they inflate Friday figures and deflate weekend figures so they can refer back to them should they wish to justify changing match days back to Friday again next season.

I think only the Bath figure has really been questioned hasn't it? Today will be the 4th Saturday game and although i personally prefer Fridays, the lack of bad PR around traffic and congestion has been quite refreshing. Hang on, I'm being far too positive

Take 2 off your guesses as Iíve been banned from taking my son to the game because of a high temperature. Colour me having a complete sense of humour failure.

its looking promising for Saturdays. All that assumes the stats arent being 'massaged' to suit the decision thats been made, but the pictures and circumstantial evidence from those there suggests not.

Big turnout from Wilslow as part of the 100 club, and improvements to the TC shuttle bode well for further improvement if persisted with.

Looked like the biggest crowd I have seen this season, but I missed the Bath game. A great atmosphere outside the ground when I arrived around 2.45pm and even better in the South stand during the game.

win or lose, a game is considerably enhanced by a crowd big enough to generate an atmosphere. You're not simply paying to watch a game of rugby, but to be part of something. At the AJB I reckon about 7k is the threshold to fell part of a crowd and to shed the inhibition of feeling like a person attending a game. At c.9k I think it would rock.

Well a big round of applause for Ale Shark who was just 240 short of the announced figure. Looking at the stands, I would have said the total number of people in the stands today was very similar to the Bath match.

Anyhow, today's attendance was officially the highest of the season. Our next two games are Saturdays, but in the Euro and Anglo Welsh comps with our next Premiership home game not until 16 February and being on a Friday (BT Sport are to blame!)

Absolutely. Conspiracy theorists come up with the conspiracy that most suits them. It wasn't too long ago that the (quite probably same) conspiracy theorists were saying Sale were inflating the attendance figures for one reason or another.

In Sale terms it was a decent crowd, but on the negativity side, and we do love our negativity side, most of the other clubs have had gates near to capacity over the last couple of weeks, so Sale still have a lot of catching up to do.

ok, table formatting is useless here.

Cursory analysis shows we're averaging 5,668 attendance this year, vs 6,202 for the whole of last year or 5,801 for the equivalent fixtures last year.
,
In order to match last years season attendance of , we need to average 7,136, slightly below yesterdays attendance, for the remaining 4 home fixtures. However with Sarries, Wasps and Tigers still to visit the AJB this is possible I guess.

Last year, our 6 friday games averaged only 5,349, vs 7,908 for two Saturday fixtures and 6,202 for three Sunday ones. That statistic is unfair on Fridays though, sine the 2 saturdays were Tigers and the final fixture of the year vs Bath where 8,306 were crowded in apparently. This year, the simple averages favour Saturdays (6,327 vs 5,174 for Fridays) on sampling so far too but we know that other factors are at work in terms of stadium access which could be affecting numbers.

Regardless, we continue to lag other teams in the league, including falcons, and will do so even if attendances hold up for the remainder of the season.

Mart, it's the little box fifth from the right of the menu bar "Formatted Code" - it comes up as (extra spaces added in) [ code ] put the table in here

[ / code]

Incidentally Sale got a hundred or so more than Newcastle, I believe, which I think is the first time Sale haven't had the lowest gate of any round.
