As expected, really.
That's still a strong backline considering we're without Charnley, Leota, Addison, Haley, Solomona and JOC

Hahahha.

Exactly as 45jumper predicted with the first guess then, despite my attempts to include all sorts of permutations.

Still, Redpath on the bench so Iím claiming that one, much like Harry Kane and his phantom goal.

As good a team as we have available.

Heard a rumour that Diamond has given up on signing a loosehead for next year after Schoeman, Mulipola and Mullan all fell through. Apparently Tarus is set to convert from tight to loose for next season.

I recall someone on here mentioning that previously also

Surprised at that, Marvel. A loosehead is still imperative IMO in case Taurus can't convert quickly enough.
Anyway, team looks decent enough. Still fancy Newcastle to win but our pack does look strong...

I donít know if the Flynn injury would suddenly change it but thatís what I heard.

The team looks good I suppose. Still have my reservations over Odogwu but I hope he has a quality game and pushes on.

Should be a quality game. Glad theyíve selected Graham, heís only had 20 minutes of game time since his injury in Early Feb so shouldnít be too sharp.

IIRC - when we signed Tarus he was billed as playing both sides

Yep happpy with that - good squad however their wingers will be very keen to get the ball in any space. Prob 2 of the best in the business at creating gaps and punishing any missed tackles. Kick chase pressure will be key.

To be frank, some of their changes dont strengthen their team. No Latu, no Takalua is a bonus for us, plus Floods experience gap over Hodgson might have made a difference if its tight late on.

Our pack is going well, and hopefully Tarus can do a job at 1 if called on.

I'm going to put a few quid on Paolo to score. Playing down Denny's wing, he ought to get a few sniffs of the line. Whatever his fallibilities, I don't think pacy finishing is one of them.

Socino has given us trouble before, another big test for Luke James.

I have a lot of belief in Luke and Paulo but both together, away from home, and in such a big game, I think this may be a step too far unless we can really dominate up front.

Surprised to see people so down on Paolo, I've never seen him put in a bad performance.
We tend to score more down the left wing than right (McGuigan has scored a hat full down there, and Yarde's strike rate recently is very good too), so not a bad shout

I don't think anyone is down on Paulo, but if all our wingers were available to play in this crucial away game you wouldn't be picking him would you?

He's definitely had a bit of trouble under the high ball in the past but hopefully he's been working on it plenty.

On the flip side he's a massive attacking talent so let's hope we're mostly on the front foot and he gets to show that.

So that's both Currys and Graham that have been injured in England camps.
Is EJ doing it on purpose so that he doesn't have to pick a 7 at 7?

I honestly do wonder if we end up with some backs injuries if we will see a Curry on the wing!

I think from folk posting on Twitter that the weather forecast will be a bit grim which will perhaps suit our pack?

I barely remember us winning at Newcastle in the recent years - even when we were decent - there was that one a few years ago with Cips did a chip and collect, we nearly won last season but missed a kick #mugfordgate. They are a good side and well drilled so should be a good game - we must be taking decent confidence into it

So much depends on our pack for this game. Hopefully we'll use our full complement of forwards so that key individuals can go full throttle. With the inexperienced backs we'll need the pack to win the gain line like against wasps. Faf and AJ's kicking from hand will be crucial as our back three aren't noted for it, neither are Falcons' either though. Glad to see Young and Hodgson over Takalua and Flood so on paper I'd say we had the better pairing on paper.

On a personal note I won't be making the game as the mountains of Canada meant I've been pushing a wheelchair for a few days. BT sport it is.

tbh the best english young back row player I have seen this season is neither a Curry or Gary Graham, its Tom Willis.

Hopefully all of those four (plus Underhill) are now in EJ's thinking ahead of Haskell and he doesn't play Robshaw ever again at 7.

I'm not annoyed at all, I'm just highlighting a difference. You can draw your own conclusions about how much that is costing Newcastle, but it does highlight that they have choices they can make for this game that we do not have.

The bookies have Falcons as favourites 4pts @ 7pts in a 45pt game.
Personally I think & hope its tighter than that.

I agree. He has a more rounded game and is currently a better ball carrier than Underhill or the Curry brothers. The thing that impresses me the most is his body position over the ball which makes him so difficult to clear out. I would love to see his turnover stats per minute played.

Re: Team for Friday 13th 2018 v Newcastle

Willis has been superb, but he didnt make much of an impact vs Sale.

FWIW, I still rate Underhill very highly but he's better at the destructive arts then the attacking piece. Both Curry's are tremendously rounded in their skills, but need to become standout in one particular aspect to cement their place IMO. I still know v little about Graham except End didnt want him to play for Scotland.

According to the ESPN match stats he made 27 tackles in the 60 minutes he played and from memory won at least three turnovers including the one for Daly's long range penalty. The Curry's have a big future and benefit from being quick and are good link players. In a few years hopefully they will develop into a Michael Hooper class player.

Willis, by his own preference, is a 6 rather than a 7. He is not in the same class as either Curry as a link man, and FWIW he wasn't as prominent as Ross. When fit, for me both Currys are far more rounded than Underhill who is a very effective tackler, and their main rival would be EVANS of Leicester who looks like a latter day Neil Back.

conditions maybe slightly our way in the 2nd half?
Its not beyond possible, because this Sale team is capable of almost anything, good and frankly cr@ppy.

But win or lose that opening 20 is inexcusable for a professional team that knows what to expect and should have go to drills to ensure control and posession early in a key game.

McGuigans kicking is less accurate than Stevie Wonder playing darts.

Unless he is aimring for Hammersley on each occasion, then heís Phil Taylor.

Gary Graham on Curry should have been looked at. But you win some you lose some. Haley on Bassett cough cough

Yeh hence the win some lose some bit.

Loving the comparison between Faf De Klerk and Rafa Nadal.

As a 6í8Ē second Row I would never have thought a crum half could be may favourite player

quite remarkable. Well done sam James. So effective at 13, please never play 10 again. Then composure again from Luke, and good support from Yarde. Simples.
