Not a big fan of Ross at 8, but the rest is as expected - Though a little surprised to see the Odogwu/Reed switch.
Like to see reed get some game time but though Odogwu had a good cameo last week

15 Willie Le Roux

14 Marcus Watson

13 Elliot Daly (c)

12 Michael Le Bourgeois

11 Josh Bassett

10 Lima Sopoaga

9 Dan Robson

1 Zurabi Zhvania

2 Tommy Taylor

3 Will Stuart

4 Will Rowlands

5 James Gaskell

6 Ashley Johnson

7 Nizaam Carr

8 Nathan Hughes

Replacements

16 Tom Cruse

17 Tom West

18 Kieran Brookes

19 Kearnan Myall

20 Ben Morris

21 Joe Simpson

22 Billy Searle

23 Rob Miller

Edit to add, given our record at AJB, I don't feel too confident of breaking the hoodoo this time around and really don't think we should have chosen this game to rest Wade, but looks set to be a cracking match and with a good ref too. May the best side win.

Lightweight back row. don't fancy our 10/12 defence against Sopoaga.

Our 10 is an excellent defender. Counter big back row with light mobile back row. Makes sense I guess. Good that Reed is getting a chance. Paulo may have made a try but being critical it showed his lack of pace, getting caught and his defensive issues cost us immediately after (I realise Bryn also to blame)

Just need to find a way to win. Would take 9-6.

Agreed we have probably the best defensive 10 in the league in AJ. About as good a team as we can put out overall, great call to go double Curry against the heavier Wasps back row, especially with keeping Phillips in the second row over Beaumont for a bit of extra bulk. Hopefully with Webber, Beaumont and Strauss on the bench they can bring a bit of impact around the 55-60 minute mark. Some great match ups, especially looking forward to Cam v Tommy T and AJ v Sopoaga.

Hmmm. Personal feeling is that our selections of more lightweight and mobile back rows against big beasts opposite always sounds better in practice than turns out to be the case. Ill be delighted to be wrong!

Playing 2 opensides didn't work out too bad for Australia against england in the 2015 world cup...

Hopefully Willie Le Roux is jet lagged as well. Is he expected to play for SA next Saturday as well? Madness

We certainly need to play tactically to match the selection.

With a fast and light back row we should either be looking to kick deep for territory and making their heavy back row turn around and chase back (but v.dangerous against Wasps to give them counter attack ball, and we aren't great at kicking deep)

Or we should be looking to retain possession as much as possible, move the ball wide off 1st or 2nd phase ball, move their big players around in defence and hope to exploit some holes.

I'd be going for the second of your options Crutch. Like you, I don't have enough confidence in our deep kicking game (or our overall tactical kicking game) to do that, especially with Le Roux waiting to collect. We always look better ball in hand, even when we are knocking on for no apparent reason. Get the ball to Denny and Marland as quickly and as often as possible, Jennings making the occasional hole, Sam James finding them. We are well placed for replacements when our own big lads get tired

Unhappiness, where's when I was young
And we didn't give a damn
'Cause we were raised

Sam Diamond basically saying that Faf is the best 9 in the world at present so youd expect him to be playing internationals. Also says hes rather had Cliff fit and firing with a week of training on the game plan than someone whos just played 5 internationals and stepped off a plane. Both of which are fair ripostes to the guy having a concerted rant about why we dont have Faf.

This 2nd half has been ridiculous,
Webber deciding not to tackle his man and letting the easiest pick and go try you'll ever see
Dropping the maul after the scrum pen

Forward passes, butter finger catches, hospital passes back over our own end zone.

Jesus wept. The first half was so promising.
Dimes is right when he talks about missed opportunities - we do the hard graft and then just switch our brains off when it matters.

There is something inherently wrong with the game of rugby when you play 2 opensides and win no turnovers in a game. Not saying it's the reason for the loss today, but I see no reason to persist with a 2 Curry strategy with the way the game is being reffed this season.

Not this season. Last 2. And this is causing the national team issues when non UK refs are in charge

Truly, truly abject. Scrum was embarrassing. No control or direction from half backs. Two restarts that didnt go the ten.

On that showing were going down unless some serious cavalry comes in. So, so dispiriting I actually feel sick.

I thought cliff was good to be fair,
AJ had a mare kicking though.

There some decent individual performances (Yarde, Jennings, T.Curry) but as a team it was a mess.

Hopefully Ashton hits the ground running after his ban cause McGuigan isn't a 15 and LeRoux's short kicking game exposed him repeatedly.
Even then, though, Ashton isn't really a 15 and probably had less game time under his belt there than Byron.

Don't know what's going on with Denny but he looked completely out of sorts today/this whole season.
Would take one of the academy lads over him at the moment, he's missing tackles, missing passes and giving away penalties and gobbing off to the refs.
Needs to sort his head out

Midfield paper thin tackling , again. Props struggled against a team that had four props out injured. Even AJ had a mare, Heads down , no confidence . Worrying

Why is Strauss only coming on for the last 20 mins each game (aside from Quins where injury to Curry meant he was on earlier)

We are underpowered and lack ball carriers and he is a proven international 8. Why is he not playing?

I agree, he is first choice 8 for me. Ross is too lightweight.

Don't normally post, just read but so disappointed today;

We need a front row/replacement front row pdq, as we are so underpowered - a Wasps pack took us to the cleaners even though we bombed multiple close range opportunities....

Our reinforcements, with the exception of Ostrikov, are irrelevant unless we get a platform, and that is down to recruitment and the management or dare I say coaching currently....

The premiership is passing us by....

Narrator: I wasnt wrong.

Its nowhere near as bad as Staly is making out, but it wasnt good. Probably the worst game Ive seen AJ have but given his importance to date, he can be excused one whiffer. And who can blame AJ for trying to force it with his passing, if hes a competitor and not enjoying the losing streak. Were just not clinical enough at the moment. Even so, if Sam James had got the bounce he deserved for his brilliant run and chip, wed have been within 4 and with momentum.

To make matters worse, traffic held us up and so I missed the try while nipping to the gents on arrival. Sigh.
