Teams up

Team: 15.Chris Ashton; 14.Denny Solomona, 13.Sam James, 12.Luke James, 11.Paolo Odogwu; 10.Kieran Wilkinson, 9.Will Cliff; 1.Tom Bristow, 2.Curtis Langdon, 3.Joe Jones, 4.Bryn Evans, 5.Andrei Ostrikov, 6.Jean-Luc du Preez, 7.Ben Curry, 8.Josh Strauss (capt.)

Replacements: 16.Nic Dolly, 17.Ross Harrison, 18.Alexandru Tarus, 19.James Phillips, 20.Josh Beaumont, 21.Faf de Klerk, 22.Rob du Preez, 23.Connor Doherty

Still looks a strong side so happy with this team. Is Connor Doherty set to debut from bench or has he appeared before?

Happy with that. Let’s hope Ben gets a rest when Tom comes back. Also Sam James needs a rest next week, surprised he’s playing over Leota if JOC is injured.

Bordeaux seem like they’ve put out a rotated team: no Radrada, Seran, Cobilas and James.

Very rotated. They don't appear too interested in this competition so hopefully we can let some players remain on the bench, namely Faf and Harrison

Hugely rotated team looking at their last Top 14 match.

Should be able to see it by using a vpn as frtv is available online.

Bordeaux lock now given q straight red for a knee to the back in the ruck. Brainless aren't they?

Red card for their #5 for a knee in the ruck

Completely unnecessary, the ball was secured and the lock didn't even try and ruck, he just jogged over and threw a knee then took up guard position

Wilf is way quicker than I though,
Kick chase then him Ashton and Odogwu were all making major ground on the opposition backs

Almost a wonder finish from Denny but we get the PT from it anyway as he was stopped from scoring by a ridiculous no arms tackle (he hit Denny spine first basically)

Re: Teams up
08 December, 2018 18:32
Some old-fashioned French play - a flying headbutt - gives a penalty try and a yellow for the UBB #2.

10 - 31

Ashton almost goes 70m but a stumble at the end necessitates an offload to cliff who goes under the sticks

Denny scores , Wilf converts

10 - 45

Just before this try there was some more old fashioned French rugby with an all-in fight.

Dolly on for Curry,
Almost immediately almost gets carded for tipping a player at the ruck but the tmo angles show the player was almost doing a handstand before Dolly got involved so it's just a penalty

Bordeaux score from the resulting lineout drive

17 - 45

Denny and Cliff both in the bin for deliberate knock downs and Bordeaux get the final try of the night while we're down to 13

24 - 50 FT

Not a bad day at the office.

6 cards, two of them red - definitely an old school French game haha

You’d think Bordeaux will send an even weaker team next week then, so the question is do we also play more of a reserve team and rest for Bristol, or do the first team need a game together to get ready for Bristol?

perfect Euro weekend again. Winning BP for us, no BP's elsewhere. Likely Connacht have no chance of topping group by the tme of our fixture over there.

Am most pleased that our lesser spotted front rows played a strong game.

I'd use a similarly strengthed side but rotate out some of the first teamers for others.
Despite the large scoreline it was a really physical game, JLDP, especially, was throwing himself around a ton.

Something like:

Bristow, Langdon, Taurus
Josh (presume Ostrikov will be banned), Evans
Ross, Curry, Strauss
Cliff, Wilkinson
Paulo, James, JOC, Ashton/Byron
Byron/Ashton

Webber, Harrison, Jones, Philips, JLDP, Faf, RdP, Reed/Doherty

I think it's important to remember that we do have a small squad so any opportunity to give our nailed on starters a breather is important (especially considering a number of them haven't had an off season)

Re: Teams up

For next week I’d go:

Bristow
Langdon
Jones
Evans
Postlethwaite
Nott (but seems injured)/Dolly
Dugdale
Du Preez
Cliff
Wilkinson
Odogwu
Leota
Doherty
McGuigan
Ashton

Webber
Harrison
Tarus
Beaumont
Ross
De Klerk
Du Preez
JOC

Properly rotated first XV but unload all the bench after 50 for forwards and 60 for backs.

Good discipline from the team.Line out bit iffy at times. Strauss had a stormer plenty of carries and good yards made. All of the team came across to acknowledge travelling support - well we were sat behind the entrance to the changing room. I've never been tear gassed going to watch Sale before. Good job we weren't playing in last season's away shirts -Gillet Jaune!

With respect to next week's team - I would be tempted to go full strength. If we win and Perpignan can do us a favour (at home) against Connacht, we're through with 2 games to spare, which would give ample resting time.

I think we should rest key players. We have Bristol (H), Gloucester (A) then Saracens (H) before and after Christmas then the Euro games. Those three games will need the full team out and firing. Bordeaux are on 2 points and obviously couldn’t care less about the competition. Send out the rotation players plus kids and give the key players 30-20 to get them up to speed for the premiership.
