Congratulations to the two of them!

Would've liked to have seen Ben C and Sam James in the mix, but Devoto is on fire atm too.

Goode has had multiple chances to show he can make the step up to international rugby but hasn't. Fantastic club player but some just can't translate that to international.

Surprised Shields is in the squad - Jono has outplayed his performance massively and I'd imagine most clubs could also claim that.

Always amazed Spencer the Sarries scrum half never ever gets a look in - seems to have an excellent allround game.

Would Jones ever be brave enough to start Ashton at 15 or revert to Brown for all the high balls but then we get limited in attack. Ashton is the last few games for us at 15 handles the high balls fine but to be fair I've noticed not a lot of teams kick back to our back 3 - if Ashton gets his hands on it - he runs it back at pace!

Brown has to start at 15. Playing well at the moment and gives that stability. The other options havenít worked. James shouldnít be in the England reckoning so no issues there. Curry not being there makes no sense. Itís such a clouded illogical decision making process that it calls into question Jones decision making as a whole.

I can see why he rates Tom curry above Ben and I guess if he wants a spread of back row options then arguably he only needs one curry in the squad. V unlikely to have a specialist 7 on the bench. If Tom gets injured then Iíd certainly argue his brother was the best option to bring in

slightly O/T and not sure if covered on another thread but Strauss is in the Scotland squad, Byron isn't.

"I can see why he rates Tom Curry above Ben"
Care to explain why?
I can't distinguish them on the field.

Tom gets a lot more turnovers, or has done this season.

Care to reveal the stats? Lots other variables of course: game-plan, opposition and ref. for a start.

Iím imagining Byron ruled out at start due to injury maybe?

Great to see two in the squad, even if others also deserve to be in contention. Jono Ross does appear to have the kind of characteristics I imagine EJ liking but he perseveres with Shields.

Ben has played more mins I guess as well.

Jono Ross prominent in other stats as well. Lineout being the surprising one.

Well, it seems EJ is saying he can transform Nowell into an open-side. Sure Tom might have a few things to say about that.

I think heís also a more dominant tackler, which Jones seems to really go for in his 7s

May well just be a perception thing on my part, but I get the feeling that Tom is more pro-active and Ben reactive. Tom seems to be thinking just that tiny bit more clearly. Tom seems to be on top of situations that fraction earlier, that fraction that makes all the difference between overturning the ball and getting driven off it. You don't make as many turnovers as he does by accident, although, the general improvement in the pack since Dorian West joined is also to Tom's advantage in that regard.

I agree PS, I think heís slightly better on the decision making front, which ties in with his breakdown stats

You pays your money, and you takes your choice.

Taken from club website, for this season only, and corrected (albeit roughly) so the figures correspond as regards minutes of play:
                                       Ben Tom
Tries 1 0
Pass completion 11 18
Metres gained 90 52
Carries 28 24
Turnovers 4 10
Defenders beaten 9 2
Tackles 53 69
Offloads 3 4

I should have added that one needs to look at other factors such as opposition, position played etcetera, etcetera. Ben has played more games than Tom overall, 67 to 40, and has scored 11 tries to Tom's 1. It maybe that when all games are taken the winner in each column could be different. The career stats doesn't seem to give the above headings, other than tries scored. Ben has played 3418 minutes to Tom's 1896.

Those stats tend to confirm Tom's better groundhog work, but also indicate Ben is a more effective ball carrier.
I would still bet though that if the wrong christian name was announced and put on the program the vast majority of fans wouldn't realize!(Sm6)
