Sadly 3567

Can anyone please explain the mentality of people who will happily go to premiership matches but won’t come to a match like this?
The same people continually say that the club needs to give opportunities to developing players but want support them when they play.
Newcastle are bringing a first choice team and we seem to be giving a few youngsters a go together with some returners from injury and a few experienced old hands
It should be a great match.

I think we're already out of the tournament and it's very cold so unlikely to attract many walk-ups. Also start of 6N so 3 consecutive days of rugby will be a bit testing for many families. Unfortunate set of circumstances, doubt there’ll be many big attendances anywhere this weekend. You're right though, it will probably be a decent open game to watch.

A shame for what might be Johnny Leota’s last game in a Sharks shirt, based on his tweet tonight. (He said he thought he’d played his last game for the Sharks after the Saracens PRC game so was delighted to get another crack).

BBC Radio Newcastle said Wilkinson looked good and Reed was good in parts then had hands like Swiss cheese at others. Heard some “bullocking” runs from Morozov. Anyone who was there have anything to add?

Twitter feed had constant knock ones by us and tackles missed in midfield for their tries

Yeah. Wilkinson was patchy but he’s clearly going to be class. Hard playing next to Cliff and a new centre combo.
The intensity was impressive from the off. Bar one howler Moore tackled well. Missed tackles were classic second choice misses.

Some positives, nothing to worry about. Van Cannonball has had a nice run out! Nield was impressive considering, as was Langdon.

Our first try was very good, coming from a delightful chip over the top from Wilkinson. Van Cannonball looked a little off the pace at times I thought, though there was one excellently timed hit and he led the charge for the try. Good runout for him.

I am a big fan of Reed but today wasn't his day, dropping a couple of passes. Paolo looked lively again and Josh put in a shift, taking his try well. Luke James had a decent game as did Langdon. At the end of the day, we were simply beaten by a more experienced side well marshalled by Toby Flood

Our defence was decidedly flaky when Newcastle got over the gain line and, unsurprisingly, they targeted Wilkinsons channel with some success. Wilkinson clearly has talent but he is also somewhat naive at this level. His decision making can be poor and he falls off too many tackles. I realise he is still very young and there is enough there to suggest he can kick on given another couple of years.

Finally, I have never seen such a laboured pass from a SH as the one that Sturgess possesses

To add to comments above:

Ben Curry went off for an HIA in the first 10 mins or so - that's why Josh came on. Ben didn't return so hopefully he is ok.

Arron Read dropped 3-4 passes and looked pretty annoyed with himself.

Dimes didn't arrive on the team bus so presumably Deacon/Forshaw were in charge (as previous PRC games?)

Paolo looked lively as ever

Paolo looked likely but lacks rugby awareness.

Ha! I nearly came back on to update it before kick off and say 3,825 as I had to abandon due to my son being unwell and me ricking my back. I’ll never better that guess.
