Rugby Paper - 5 Forward Signings

So the Rugby Paper shows Diamond having said we have five forward signings to announce, and Kitschoff isnít one of them.

I think we have got the Du Preez Brothers?

Possibly Lood de Jšger?

Otherwise I would expect a loosehead to come in and Flynn / Bristow to leave.

Possibly then another lock on top of De Jšger (or another unnamed lock)

That would add some more power to the side which we need, and keep the quality in the 15 even with rotation

Off topic do you think we need another SH to go ahead of/on par with cliff specially with the World Cup

Dimes is quoted saying no more signings in the backs.

BUT I would want another SH, as Iím unsure Cliff could be a Prem starter to match our ambitions and Warr hasnít been given enough time. I think itís an oversight to go into next year with Faf / Cliff / Warr.

Iíd also like a specialist full back to come in, but wonít happen.

Strauss looks like heís out: supposedly passed HIA but still removed, benched for weeks and that gaping hole for the first try.

Are there any English second rows available?

Flynn is 26 at the start of next year and has barely played so I imagine itís the end for him at Sale, maybe FC or a championship club.

I had a quick Google and can't see any mention of Flynn's contract status (I was sure he signed one last year when the Bristol rumours were floating about but maybe not)

Jake Pope on the naughty step and Bristow/Flynn potentially off then 2 looseheads, the du Preez twins and a lock would all do nicely.

If we were to sign the du Preez twins i wouldn't be adverse to allowing Strauss to weigh up his options elsewhere - already struggles for game time without those two here

Straussí stats have been poor all season:

Bit of a let down of a signing. Jean-Luc was in a different league in comparison.

Strauss looks a different player for Scotland, higher tackle rate, better energy levels.

A Scottish chap I know, when Strauss was signed told me to watch out for that.
His comment was along the lines of :-
"Great for Scotland & in big club games, but goes missing when it's a Friday night against Newport with 3 men & a dog in the stands"

I think Strauss has worked really well off the bench. Weíve used him better than last season.

Faf needs the odd rest. 9 is an issue. Cliff wouldnít be second choice for any other prem team.

We still have an issue at 15.

Having said all that our major issue is lack of ball carriers in the pack. None of our props carry so Webber has to do all the donkey work. Beaumont does but heís not a volume carrier. Ross is ace obviously and has literally carried us for most of the season but heís a volume carrier and doesnít punch the holes of a trad big carrying back row forward. (Same for Webber really)

IMO we need a 15 to invigorate the back line. Yesterday the Warriors back line totally outplayed ours - the back three of Adams, Pennell and Heem embarrassed us. We need to adjust our playing strength accordingly. We wondered why we signed another winger in Yarde at the time.....

Based on yesterday we need lots of things but opinion will switch if we win next week!! There are a few issues in the squad but the 5 new additions will rectify most of those in theory.
The game looks easier when you get go forward from the forwards.

With Newcastle looking favourites for the drop I think Simon Hammersley would be a good signing for us at full back. A very underated yet effective player in a position where I think we are lacking. I'd love to sign Mark Wilson as well

There was talk with of Wilson coming to us because heís a Cumbrian and at the moment England players canít play for England if they play in the Championship, so Iím led to believe. That wouldnít he announced until after the end of the season however. We could do with a Ďpick me upí this week if theyíve had pen to paper...

In my humble opinion Wilson would not come to Sale.
You are signing an SA back row player, and already have two Currys, Nott, Beaumont and Straus.

I think Strauss is off or at least massively out of favour. Two back row du Preez brothers would make it very unlikely though as it would be too congested.

Doesnít quite add up.
Not sure about Hammersleys all round game. Good highlights reel player. Would be happy to take him though. He looks like heís been transported straight from 1991.

With Yarde, Ashton, Mcguigan and O'Connor all missing from the back three/ midfield. Reed vs Heem always seemed like a mismatch and so it proved, particularly in the first quarter. From there we were playing catch up. Warriors exposed our depleted backs but equally most teams would miss those four from their starting backline. Not sure we need another 15 personally with the amount of cover we have between Ashton, McGuigan, O'Connor, S James, L James. We are just hit by injuries in one particular area (back 3). Don't forget Rob Du Preez can also play full back and inside centre as well as 10. That gives us more options as well as suspect we will see some rotation between Rob and AJ at 10.

Itís not so much numbers itís more that they bring at 15. We arenít set up to have a solid kicking 15. We need someone to be threatening the line and linking.

Weíre getting off topic but Harry Mallinder is available next summer...Though I can see Wilkinson played potentially at 15 a bit next year.

would have thought ashton is exactly that. problem is between suspension, england and his injuries we havent seen him this year. imagine post rwc england will move on and hopefully we won't have another 7 game suspension thrown into the mix next year.

personally think the forwards need strengthening more. Dan and JL Pu Preez plus someone like Snyman or Lood De Jager would make us a cracking pack next year. a solid loosehead and another back up second row probably completes the 5.

Yes. Strengthening the pack esp with ball carriers is clearly the priority.
A fully fit Ashton and we wouldnít be having this conversation. Though unlike in other positions one injury and we have to stick fill in players in there.

I donít think Strauss is out of favour - pretty sure I read something not too long ago about how he appreciated his game time being managed and the benefit that could have on his career.

Wilson did strike me as someone we might be well-placed to pick up if Falcons go down and some players look to leave. Beaumont can focus on lock, as could Nott, while if Strauss has one more year then weíd have enviable depth.

I think heís a pretty solid player all round, did well on Friday against Leicester. Would certainly be a solid option for us

Would seem odd that heís happy to not be starting and in some cases when JLDP was here not even used off the bench. He will be on good money so I donít see where it can go other than him leaving.
