Don't want to be a damp squid but....whenever the fans make their feelings known ie the yellow hats, the club take no notice. this is only one example.

The club gets slagged off on here for not taking account of our views.

This does at least sound like a opportunity to get some point across.

It's a bit harsh to slag them off again, without at least findig out what it's about.....

They don't seem to indicate how many (or how few!) of us they would like to be present on the forum?

Seems a good idea though, providing they do listen.
Certainly at Open Evenings they have listened, maybe this is a follow on to formalise such activities.

Up the Carnegie TYKES !

The club asked for our veiws on merchandice years ago and took no notice. The supportes then started wearing yellow hats, the club were aksed if they would stock them, no chance. The club then asked again two seasons ago for input into the club merchandice and again yellow hats were brought up, no chance again not enough call for them. Needless to say supporters are buying their own 'identity' which the club should have tapped into.

Never mind all the rubbish 3/4 seasons ago about paying extra for the long room then opening it up free when no one went,

So call me a whinger or a sceptic but it's too late for me - I'm out. But really do hope I'm proved wrong for the sake of the club.

Tukey,

Agreed, they have not showered themselves in glory in the past and I believe that because of that they will have to really come good here to win us over.

However, as an eternal optimist, I am willing to give them a chance.

Come on Leeds, let's see what you can do!

Can I just say on the subject of the “Day-Glo Hats” we don’t seem to have had any problems getting our own.

I know we were all a little disappointed the club did not see the since of stocking them at the club shop when suggested last year But……………………..

I now tend to think there is a little bit of cachet (“mark of distinction”) in being one of the “Tykes Independent Supporters”, we actually do stand out in a crowd.

I don’t know if I would be pleased if 90% of Leeds fans were wearing yellow hats at Headingley, provided by the shop, i'd rather 90% were showed there independence having bought them on EBay.

Lemon Heads the fans that Stand Out in the crowd !!!!!!

Just my option

I have asked the club for some more info about the forum. I will post the reply on here. Hopefully we will be able to senda few delegates. If the numbers reflect the gate size of the respective teams we will be outnumbered about 8 to 1.

I agree entirely, if we go through an official channel the club will have to give an explanation for accepting or rejecting the suggestions that are put forward. That in itself, is a start.

Re: We need a volunteer !
Apart from yellow hats there are other issues that affect supporters that could be raised.

As an example: the policing of games. It may be a sensible requirement for an army of G4S staff to police a Rhinos game when the attendance is aproaching 20.000 but, for a Carnegie match, with an average crowd of about 2.500, is that army realy nessesary? Could not the money saved be used for something usefull, players for example.

Further points are the facilities, food, beer... When the Supporters Club house was shut down, what is there for Leeds supporters and the local community at Headingley? How can that be redressed?

Thre is a heap of questions that could be raised, and solutions recommended by ordinary supporters. I am sure that amongst the "ordinary" supporters there is a wealth of tallent that could be utilised by the Club.

Re: We need a volunteer !
'Ordinary' supporters have offered suggestions in the past, the yellow hats was an example of how the club don't listen. We had individuals who in their professional working life work in marketing and offered to help for free. We have had suggestions on open evening 'an evening with .....', food has been addressed before, as has the poor selection of ale and food, the closing of the supporters bar. All these have been brought to the clubs attention in the past.

I do hope the club have finally realised the way to up supporters figures is by inclusion and not ignoring those who want the same thing as they do a successful rugby club and team.

I think the amount of stewards at a ground is more to do with the ground capacity rather than the number of supporters. But agree their attitude sucks.

By the way what is an 'ordinary' supporter?

"ordinary" = People like you and me. People that care about the Club. People that pay for season tickets or on entry to the ground, people that are prepared to help the Club. People that purchase the mechandise. People that travel with the Club both near and far...

I wont give my definition of who I consider not to be "ordinary" supporters. I leave that to you to decide.

There is now a window of opportunity for the supporters voice to be heared. If would be a shame if that opportunity was not taken.

Re: Leeds Rugby Fans' Forum
The forum will consist of 15-20 supporters, equally split between us and the Rhinos.
It will meet 4 times a year midweek.

As we are not the only Carnegie supporters I suggest that we try and get at least 20 applications in so that we are well represented on the forum.

Send me a p.m. if you are going to apply.

WW,
Application in the snailmail. I thought it best to send it 2nd class to show my "Tyke" credentials.

Come on you guys, I'm a bit of a novice supporter ( not even recognising when knock-ons go backwards etc) so surely there are more deserving applications to be made?

he worrying thing for me is the lack of attendance. 1057 for a play-off fixture, a local derby at that, is simply unacceptable. To me it says that Premiership Rugby in West Yorkshire is unsustainable in it's present form, with or without an RFU Parachure Payment. It's time for the club to sit down, take stock, make some big decisions and be honest with the supporters. Are there barriers within the current setup which prevent investment or takeover from outside parties?

Barriers, who is going to want to take over/invest in a side that struggles to attract 1,000 spectators to a derby play off game - the Club will have lost money today, just on staffing costs alone.

The club will not have lost money today, because I assume they will get a fee from Sky. Sadly, they lost spectators because of the need to comply withh the demands of a televised fixture. I hope all of those who yearn for Leeds to feaature on television more often will accept, it is not good for putting bums on seats.

Correct,it costs Sky over £30,000/game in production costs alone, for what, according to the BARB figures is usually a tv audience of around 25,000 people.I suspect today, with an early ko and it being Mothers Day,the figure will be even less - Sky actually lose money by covering Championshp games, but do it to retain the Internationals.

12.15 KO is a non starter. Local clubs don't finish their games until after 1pm and that's still where most of ours fans come from.

We had the day planned for a 3pm KO, as soon as it was brought forward it was a non starter. Our trip from Sedburgh through the Dales was pleasant though, upset only by receiving text updates of the score.

Soops, nobody wants to turn away any income stream. It is fine for clubs with a big fan base to switch kick off times around, but we cannot afford to lose what small fan base we have.
As unlikely as it looks at the minute, we need to be part of the Premiership, if only for the funding, otherwise Headingley will look very deserted all next season. It didn't look good on the TV today.

Re: Leeds Rugby Fans' Forum
I agree that the kick-off time wasn't great and it doesn't encourage big crowds.
My point re: SKY TV is that they are the hand that feeds us and we have to accept their coverage if we accept their coinage - this is the reality of professional sport and ALL rugby/Football clubs have the same problems.

Now this is the more controversial bit: we don't get crowds that are sustainable with or without the TV coverage and if a crowd of 2,000 pay an average of £10 each then the club only get £20,000 a match in ticket sales that barely covers costs of the stadium. This is just chicken feed financially compared to the TV money so it really doesn't matter.
TV coverage may bring our team to a wider audience and bring in new fans, so it's a double edge sword - the problem is actually our dismal performance, which puts the crowds off!

There will be 15 to 20 representatives and no set formula for a Rhinos/Carnegie split but they will endeavour to ensure the panel is "equal".
Decision on representatives targetted for end of April, with the first meeting May/June 2012.

The club is obviously working through this process diligently to try to get it right first time.

Re: Leeds Rugby Fans' Forum
I too have received a letter today, but what I would like to know, is how are they going to decide who is suitable or otherwise? Are they prepared to accept people who have criticised certain aspects of the club in an effort to resolve issues, or are they looking for the quiet type, so that no feathers are ruffled?

COME ON LEEDS.
We've been through it all together.

They will be weeding out the awkward gits like Mark_C & Hax. Then getting rid of the miserable ones like me. That leaves you Almo to represent the mb on the forum.

WW,
Not sure about your theory!

My application, as a recognised "Johnny come lately" novice fan was largely tactical, to increase the number of Carnegie applications in the expectation that the chosen representatives would be proportional to the aplications received.

Would be a bit of a shock if I actualy get chosen, but if that is the case I will engage with Mark, Hax and WW to get some coaching on grumpiness.

Well its clear the other contenders have more or less thrown in the towel so I say "Vote Almo" you know it makes sense.

Re: Leeds Rugby Fans' Forum
On the subject of the Forum. Bradford City call theirs "a focus group". I recently recieved a communcation from BC which states: "This year a focus group made up of a cross section of BC supporters helped us examine how different groups of fans chose to pay to support BC. We identified that we have a group of regular supporters for whom buying a Season Ticket does not make financial sense or their individual circumstances mean committing to a Season Ticket is not practical." Also, "The focus group also suggested that the Club should look at a different price for seniors and students. So, the Club have introduced a new season ticket price band for senior citizens and students".

How refreshing, a Club listening to its supporters. Let's hope our own Forum will have the same effect.

Although it is described as a "Forum" I'm sure that it will be a focus group. That said, at least the club is willing to listen to the fans.

Does anyone know when it starts?

Re: Leeds Rugby Fans' Forum
I have received communication from Leeds Rugby indicating that I have been successful in my application to be a member of the Forum. There is no news on who is involved or the numbers chosen, only that there is an initial meeting to get to know each other, as a group, on 30th May. It also indicates that there will be a guest speaker, Mark Bradley, who is an expert on Fan's Forums.

Let you know more, as and when, but is there anyone else from Carnegie supporters involved?

Apparently there were sixty of so applications.

Welcome on board Hax, hope you've recovered from 'frostbite' suffered at North Marine Road. Saw you on Look North report on Thursday and it looked grim!

Never been as cold at a cricket match as I was this week. My straw hat which accompanies me everywhere, was replaced, like all the fielders, by a woolly hat and thermal gloves. Wasn't there today, but at least they got a result.

Congratulations on being elected to represent the Headingley Carnegie South constituency!

Not wasting any time - can we have some real ale in the bar under the South Stand?
