I have just been watching a film of the Lions tour to New Zealand in 1971. Both sides had players of skill, panache and the ability to make something out of nothing
I know times have changed but nowadays it's a much nmore turgid game

Really looking forward to it.

I see Eddie reckons the Lions are too Welsh influenced to trouble the All Blacks.

I bloody love Eddie Jones!

Yep. Looking forward to the distraction that a Lions tour brings during the summer as I am not a bing fan of cricket, tennis and cycling.

Yep,

Think Farrell, Faletau and Sinckler were the main positives. Stuart Barnes the main negative, living proof that playing to a good standard doesn't qualify you to commentate.

First game of a long tour, better to come (though probably not from Barnes!)

lost against worse team in NZ super rugby...

up against the best in the competition on Saturday morning.

I think they have a wendy ball statement 'Just like watching Brazil'

I wonder what the Lions one is now. 'Just like watching another team in red'

I don't have Sky so haven't seen the games and can't comment on the performances as such. It does seem to me though that with a much more condensed tour it's all about the Tests and losses at this stage aren't so important in themselves. That said, I think he needs to settle his test squad very soon after Saturday's game and stick with it.

Good result against the Maori today.

Think Gatland's losing it with the call ups though.

I really admire his 'don't give a f $£k attitude', and if he'd said that in his opinion they were the next best players I'd completely defend his right as head coach to pick who he likes.

But to openly admit that he's done it on geography rather than merit is insane and de-values the shirt imho.

Indeed. I don't know whether he's said he won't do another tour but I think it's time to give someone else a go, whatever the outcome of the tests.

What's do you reckon the Lions will change for the second test?
We must stop kicking the ball away and have a go at them. We looked dangerous for about 6 mins we ran it.
Reads off loads was superb. Anyone else would have been happy recycling that ball.
