Scotland has now re-organised its rugby hierarchy: two professional Pro 14 teams and 6 semi-professional teams in a franchise system. See:

As we in England are now, in effect, part of a 13 club elite franchise (Premiership plus relegated team with enormous parachute payment), should we not just face facts and make the Championship semi-professional?

Just seen Melvine's views on the offie:

Surely with 10 loan players available to each side the Championship is going to be meaningless???????

As I read it the prem loanees will be able to play for as many Championship sides as need them. That will make short term loans more common.(even just one game) It will make it possible for us to play against the same players week after week (worst scenario). There could be a pool of up to 120 young players all getting game time in the Championship. Rent-a-squad anyone?

Sound like a recipe for disaster!

I suppose the choice is, do you prefer to support:
1) A team made up of a limited squad of professional players, supplemented by random players procured on a temporary basis from charitable Premiership clubs, or
2) A semi-professional team of players that belong to the club and where you recognise the players from week to week?
