World Cup Rugby

The female rugby world cup starts tomorrow and it is being shown on ITV4 (ITV4 are starting to look like my favourite TV channel at present).
The host country is Ireland and matches are shared between Dublin and Belfast.
England are the holders and I think the favourites to regain the trophy, although the rfu is doing its worst as it has already put some of the team on the dole by announcing that player contracts will not be renewed unless they want to join the 7's team (hard luck props). Could only happen in rugby.....
First match tomorrow afternoon, England versus Spain, and England seem confident as they have put most of their experienced players on the bench. Ireland/Australia follows at a time more suited to you working types.

The England coach, Simon Middleton, will be familiar to some of us. He used to be our defence coach (when we had a defence)

So England off to a flying start with 10 tries whilst both resting a few experienced players and blooding a few new ones.
And ITV4 has Flats doing the punditry!

Come on England. Should be a relatively simple win today against Italy, and a chance for one or two of the ladies who underperformed last time, to shine.

Well England won reasonably comfortably, though with work to do in respect of handling errors.
Next match a cruncher against the USA on Thursday.

US should provide serious opposition.

We are now, in effect, in the sudden-death stages of the competition:

USA tomorrow at 1430 will not be easy but I back our girls to win.

The French attacked with pace and power. Their defence was, until the last play, immaculate. If we beat them in the semi it will not be by much.

I think the final is on the main ITV channel. That should improve the viewing figures.

COME ON LEEDS.
We've been through it all together.

An amazingly hard game of rugby. Totally absorbing. Will give the Ferns a run for their money at the weekend.

Hope you are right, Hax, great to see it in HD. My listings mag still has it down for ITV4, though.

Watched last night's excellent game on main French TV channel, France 2, and see link:

Excellent final - sadly the Red Roses were blown away in the second half.
New Zealand worthy winners, but skillful sides like England and France will need a few 100kg players at the next WRWC to compete.

The try's scored by our two wingers in the final were pure magic.

Would that we might see something similar from ours this season.

After a hard semi final against the French, New Zealand was simply a game too far. The Red Roses did not let themselves down, they played well. A super game that, on another day, could have produced a different result. Well done ladies, you did the game proud.(Sm152)
