I do not like complaining about hot, dry and sunny weather.

I remember once, on holiday in a village in the South of France, temperature mid 30s, seeing a man asleep in his car, with the air-conditioning on. No doubt the only air-conditioning available in the stone buildings around. It was a British car....

Our buildings have excellent heating systems but are designed to keep heat in. Similarly the plants are used to copious rainfall, therefore the emphasis is on drainage. Their roots are near the surface, no need to go deeper, and in my garden you hit solid sandstone at 12" anyway.

Wish I had bought shares in a brewery. Just think, the combination of hot, dry weather, the World Cup, plus England advancing far further than expected?

Must get back to watering.....

I wasn't born in Yorkshire but I got here as soon as I could
