Thoughts?

Every year we talk about pre-season or more recently a lack of or even poor opposition too. London Irish although have big backers we will have the facilities once completed to offer a quality venue, they have a preason cup against Harlequins which they hold the memory of Nick Duncombe the young scrum half that passed away (called the Duncombe Cup) with the benefit of securing a regular fixture against a Premiership club in preseason. Be interesting to here if a similar thing could be arranged with a team like a Sale or Newcastle where we play every preseason against the same team either home or away for a memorial or sponsored trophy

We always seem to be undercooked at the start of the season due to a lack of pre-season friendlies. I think the problem lies in a combination of factors:

1) Headingley is in use by the Rhinos, so dates may be unavailable (and management distracted?). This year the South Stand will not be ready.
2) Also Headingley is a big ground to open up for the small crowds likely
3) Premiership clubs have little to gain by playing us: they do not want the stigma of losing, plus Championship teams have a reputation of being very physical so they risk injuries
4) Now we have a small squad and perhaps better to start the season with a full, but undercooked, squad than one with injuries from friendlies.

Yep no more than 2 preseason games please. One at a nearby club would be nice.

Unfortunately you are wrong. No Cunningham Duncombe Cup game with the Quins this season. They refused to play us, must have been the 2 losses last season against us. Instead we play Leicester tigers away and Munster away.

I'd rather be a Paddy then a Quin!!

C'mon the boys in Green!!
