Reported in today's Rugby Paper - Otley to sell Cross Green for housing development and build new 2,000 capacity stadium near the proposed East of Otley Relief Road. All subject to planning of course.

Enjoyed playing there many times and Cross Green has a lot of heritage and famous back stories, a traditional old club who sadly seem to either tread water or slip backwards these days,

However i drive past Harrogate RUFC set up regularly and can't help think thats a great move for the future development of the club,

Money in the coffers from housing developers a nice swanky clubhouse etc free advertising of the club from the by-pass seems a win win situation for Otley and i wish them the best,

My initial thought was what if we could have developed our own ground after selling Chandos. I dont know much about the financial side of things but it was much more difficult to develop a new ground that would meet Premiership standards. I remember the difficulties in finding a suitable site. I recall one proposed site near me in the Green Belt off Roundhay Park Lane, between the ring road and Shadwell. The overriding Green Belt objections to that site will probably not apply to Otley's proposed site, also in the GB I think, where a much smaller scale built development is proposed.

Maybe we can ground-share at Otley until we make it back to the promised land, and then go back to Headingley!!! (Sm100)

From what has been reported 4million is the sale price of Cross Green so should be able to do plenty with that

I hope Otley get the full value out of their current site, unlike Harrogate, who sold their land to a company that subsequently sold it for much more IIRC.

Good move for Otley. I am sure they will do a decent job of it and access will be far easier and congest the town far less.
I don't mind harrogates new ground but I hope Otley are going for something better.
