Consistency is a positive, and consistency means 'thickness' I believe

At least it means we will continue to be less affected by national frock ups than we once were

That is good news

It would be interesting to know what the get-out clause is if it goes belly-up, particularly if the journos scent blood and starting making SL the story (in a bad way, as opposed to fawning hagiographic stuff, which is bad but in a different way).

Dear God no. The idea of Stu instilling PITON (Pride In The Orange Number) and espousing WRONG (Welford Road, Our Noble Ground) is just too PUKES (Props United, Key to Every Scrum) to contemplate.

Why not wait until after the RWC ? He already has a contract until well after then anyway.

Tiggs, that was exactly my thoughts when I read it and I am one of ones that likes what Lancaster is doing...

I suspect that it was just a case of he/his agent having a better poker face than the RFU. I can't see any way in which the RFU can come out of this ahead.

Astonishing - no tangible success & a 6 year contract extension.

Makes him the same as Alan Pardew at Newcastle United - look what's happening there.

Maybe somebody at the RFU with cruel sense of humour reads the 'Weekly Lancaster?'

It certainly made me laugh when I saw the announcement.

Bitter and twisted come to mind.

England's longest-serving head coaches

Sir Clive Woodward
83 tests between 1997-2004, 71% win rate

Geoff Cooke

50 tests between 1988-94, 72% win rate

Martin Johnson (that great tiger!)

38 test between 2008-2011, 55% win rate

Stuart Lancaster

30 test between 2011- present, 60% win rate

Jack Rowell

29 tests, between 1994-97, 72% win rate

And this has what to do with this thread? As far as I can see it only proves that Lancaster is a long way short of the success rate of Woodward, Rowell and Cooke - though the latter two played far fewer tests against SANZAR.

Evidence that his new contract is absurd imo.

To be frank I think a 6 year contract for any rugby coach is far too long. I think I expressed similar sentiments regarding Cockerill but I can't remember.

Even his fan club must admit any England coach is a 3 win year from the sack.
