I thought he'd had a blow to the head and that he didn't look compus mentis for a while, as did the commentary team. I wasn't happy that he was left on the pitch rather than having a full HIA. This reflects poorly on us as regards player welfare and it hints that if the bench had been better stocked at that point the HIA might have taken place. Shabby.

Or that neither the coaches nor the head injury assessment spotters get the TV commentary or live TV stream so mistakes can be made as almost every club has in the last two years.

With the bench already being fully used there is obviously the suspicion that missing it was convenient but without anything further coming to light I can't see why we would assume the worst.

Tigers I fear will face an investigation and the fallout could be very damaging.

We will see.

TBH was the North saints thing that damaging in the long run last season?

Wasn't Bateman still on the bench at that point?
Could have then bought him on as Hooker and moved Thacker into the back row.

But that's the point - it didn't damage Saints, but what will be the effect on the player in the long run, that's where the concern should be.

The spotters and coaches do have full access to the live tv stream and replay it at will too. As does the pitchside doctor.

Doesn't the TMO also have the power to call a HIA ?

Well, they interfere with lots of things that that they shouldn't, so are probably too busy to deal with some that they should.

Geir Dan was asked about this during the game in one of the pitch side coach interviews.
He said that Ryan had been winded only, no LOC so able to continue.
Didn't look good live, but on reflection the winded story would leave similarly leave a player just needing to lie down.
Dunno!
But seems that was what the coaching side heard, presumably from the physio.

Geir Dan = Geordan!

Yes, i heard Geordan's explanation and thought 'cobblers' at the time.
He defo looked 'out of it' for a good few minutes after, inc when packing down at a scrum. But then again at the lineout immediately after the incident he was lifted and took the ball cleanly, which must be v hard to do if 'not with us' - many lineouts were worse , prior to it.
(I'm not suggesting that the solution to our lineout woes is to bang some heads together)

That wasn't what was said last year with the North incident.

Some confusion there Stuart, Saints said that they did not have access to the footage at the time, but they should have, some sort of issue. Normally the teams have all footage available.

Surprised such an avid student of the game as yourself seems unaware that there were new practices brought in after the North incident and subsequent investigation.

This includes a dedicated Tigers pitchside reviewer. Now I missed it at the time but watching the game since, it sure looks like Ryan was briefly ko'd by collision of his head with Norths elbow. Suspicion alone should merit a HIA.

After all, no player ever got winded by an impact to the head rather than their trunk.

Looks to me like Tigers haven't learned from Saints mistakes, so due whatever comes their way.

Most importantly of course, I hope Ryan is welll or if he isn't makes a full recovery.

If you say so, I thought coaches didn't have access to the live TV feed in case they nicked the commentators analysis for themselves.

I doubt that they would nick anything, but also doubt that they have sound anyway.

We can't criticise Saints then do the same thing ourselves, we may be in some trouble here.

Perhaps the TMO is in trouble.

Just to clarify; suspicion alone doesn't merit in HIA - "reasonable ground for suspicion" mean that the HIA has already been failed and doesn't need to be carried out.
This case, much like the cases of Matu'u and North last year were cut and dried failed HIAs, with the player allowed to play on, and absolutely no repercussions for the club or attending medics. The North lot got away with it despite actively claiming to have falsified the HIA report! (first box to tick is "Have you seen the video footage")
