Poor old Wasps - can't afford any more shiny new toys!

I recall recently a discussion on Sarries complaining that the salary levels for players was putting their squad building under pressure and that they were fearful of losing some of their best.

Well now it appears that Dai Young is concerned!

Really you couldn't make it up! Who's next up in the hypocrisy stakes? Bruce Craig?

I wonder if it says something about 'sustainable business models'?

Sustainable business models they are as rare as salary caps.

Apparently only Chiefs made a profit last year. 1.1 million. Not from rugby but from a 365 day buisness at Sandy Park. A record of astute signings of players rejected by their clubs and a remarkable production line academy has kept clear of excessive player demands. That system has had great success

Not all clubs have announced their results yet.

Fair point - and one we could do with remembering having lost sight of it in recent seasons. I don't know whether Tigers made a profit last year - given that we had to pay out huge amounts of compensation I wouldn't be confident. But that's what stability gives you and we have been as far from stable as it's possible to imagine though the BoD don't seem to see that as their problem. Surprised if Saints haven't made a profit - though if that taxi ever arrives it might be different.

But it's the hypocrisy angle that most strikes.

Better predicament than they were in when Dai was pitching in from his own pocket. Personally that is what the noose is for and this is looking like the most competitive and compelling season's start for ages. Can't see too many thinking it's ok we only need 4 th and sending weaker teams away.

He's getting his excuses in early for them finishing mid-table and winning nothing.

I am sure Sale supports can see the irony of what is said, after all Wasps did tempt quite a few Sale players by offering substantially better salaries.

Arrhhh, bless!

Thought Saints had just announced a loss. First for ages?

We seem to have lost sight of what made us successful and what Exeter admired, aspired to and so copied. Have our BoD lost sight of what is important in their quest for pots? Although this is of course important too just not so important that you toss the baby out with the bath water!

What’s Brian O’Driscoll got to do with it?

Less money for less games, maybe but probably not pro-rata ?

Rich, last year (2016) thr club made a profit of £9,539K

That is after including a gain on revaluation of £10,272K

Operating profit was a loss of £424K

It is also worth noting that commercial revenue was down by £1.5 million, I think that was due to games played outside Saturday afternoon

Full accounts are here. file:///C:/Users/John/Downloads/final-2016-accounts-low-res-for-web(2).pdf

or just load [www.leicestertigers.com] and insert AGM.
