Since the trophy at stake between these teams is not The Ashes, why is the series referred to as "The Women's Ashes"? You may as well call it The Women's Ryder Cup since they're not competing for that either!

I think they did burn something a couple of series ago but I don't know what it was.

Seems perfectly logical to use Ashes as title for a series between England and Australia, especially cricket. After all rugby league has used Ashes as title of their England Australia series since 1908

If you're going to be pedantic it's probably best to be accurate.

There is no trophy - well not until quite recently and certainly not for most of the last 150 years - called The Ashes.

The Ashes is a term used to describe the cricketing relationship between the Crims and our good selves. The series [pl] is called The Ashes and by extention we play for The Ashes but it is more conceptual than literal.

Which is why pretty much any Anglo-Australian contest is described as The Ashes in reference to the first (and most important).

The urn itself is kept at Lords as an icon - a fetish really - of the rivalry arising from the first defeat by the foe. But actually the origin of the term from which all this springs lies in a spoof newspaper entry bemoaning the death and cremation of English cricket.

Tldr - it's fine - it's always the ashes - chill.
