A start would be to insist that the player stays on his/her feet to stop the exocet clear out. Really difficult though as jackalling puts the head in a vulnerable position and it is nigh on impossible to make contact avoiding the head unless you come from the side "peep peep" goes the whistle.

Imo it's not that the jackal position is inherently unsafe - it is but lot's of things about the game are inherently unsafe - it's that it's exacerbated by allowing, as he says, the big guys to clear out by entering the ruck at speed and without control.

Any player who dives into the ruck should be penalised and any player who dives into the ruck and leads with shoulders or head should be dismissed. It's far more dangerous than what George Smith did last week!

And any attacking play with the ball should not be able to lead with their head and/or shoulder against a tackler. This is what the had off is for.

Totally agree with all of above. In many ways rucking was a lot safer.

'This is what the hand off is for.'
Fixed it for you Yorkie.

I'd add the forearm smash and elbow as well.

How right that is.

Getting careless, Yorkie. Too fired up by the White Rose victory this morning.

I wouldn't take too much comfort from beating that shower. Good players playing badly - now where have I heard that before?

Don't worry, the good players will have left when you're playing the likes of Leicestershire next sesaon.

Stop players using momentum to shift the jackal-ing player, and the balance of power shifts too far the other way. Far better to bring back rucking, IMO.

+1

Amd solves all the flopping around on the wrong side of the ball like a beached whale in a jiffy.
