He certainly has the skills to succeed.

Not having to do any tackling and not having to take any collisions obviously helps.

All he has done so far is side step a 20+ stone guy in heavy padding and run quickly. He will face much bigger challenges.

Agreed - but if his linemen can create him some space he will get opportunities to step like that and he's always had the gas to burn. He's the bullet they need to fire.

True he will struggle with the tactical side. But he can sidestep and wrong foot all day and he has pace to burn.

Well done for what he has achieved so far.

As a punt and/or kick returner that is all he needs to do - Jarryd Jayne was also excellent in his cameo for the Miners a few years ago, in this role. If he actually wants a proper RB gig though he'll need to learn to read keys and follow a developing hole, and learn to run at least a basic route tree.

Without wishing to claim a direct comparison yet, this could also have been said about (early) runs by Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders or....Walter Payton, and they were all (still are) held in great esteem.

It's what running back are primarily in there for, yes he'll have to take collisions from 300lb + defensive linesmen but as he gains experience (and no doubt confidence) I think he'll just become more and more dangerous.

His team mates reaction spoke volumes IMO and being awarded the match ball by the coach....gimmick or justified reward?

Good luck to the lad - a loss to Rugby Union but clearly showing his desire and ability can take him far. (of course...all IMVHO).

I didn't say he couldn't be great, just that the hype is Ott, exactly as it would have been for those you name above.
They didn't get this praise in their very early games.

NFL have taken a leaf out of the Tigers defensive playbook there

Hasn't that article completely ignored that he can't play this upcoming season, and therefore has a further year to get comfortable with the playbook and other concepts?

I think the article is right. He can play if he is picked in the main squad when the final set of cuts are done, but not if he (which he almost certainly will) takes up the International player exempt spot in the practice squad.
