Great news, but it looks like the timescales have been pushed back by a season.

Not compared with what was said when they held the display of the plans at AzP earlier in the season.

I was told that plans were to be submitted; they hoped to get planning permission by April (the GLA and mayor weren't mentioned). They then hoped to start demolition following the end of this season with the new stand being ready for the start of the 2018/19 season. They were still working on how they were going to manage a reduced capacity during 2017/18.

Against that, it looks to be broadly on track - no mention yet of how next year's 16 games will be managed.

That's exactly how I understood the situation to be. I hope Sadiq Khan does not prove to be an obstacle.

Im guessing the seats over the track will still remain whilst the demolition / construction is on going - those who currently sit in the stand will probably have to move to the East or North & South Stands (which will be probably increased in size ) and Porta cabins for the changing rooms. Or possibly there may be enough room to build a temp west stand "upwards" as they won't have to worry about blocking the view

I think you have it Waldo. I think the West demountable stand could be a fair bit closer to the pitch as well and much steeper (like the North & South). Add the extra height in and you're there. Obviously the N&S could be expanded as well if necessary. There would be no activity on match days on the building site so from my lay man's perspective H&S should be OK.

Interesting to see what the STH proposals about pricing will be for West stand people during the transition period?

I was told on the open day that they hoped to be occupying the seats in the new west stand quite early in the construction phase.

If it's primarily a walk-up stand then you can get the seats sorted fairly quickly, you can then work on the inside segments at a slower pace.

Does the wording "permanent" 10500 seating indicate that between the East and West stand alone there will be 10500? Or does that still include the North and South stand temporary setup?

I think they always include the North and South stands in 'permanent' figures. Think it's just to differentiate from 'temporary' extra seats for the Euro QFs.

when they did the East stand, a material amount of the cash came I think from the upfront payment from Allianz for their naming rights and sponsorship; for the West stand I think that they may have a deal with the University?

Yes, at last year's SSA fans Forum it was explained that it was possible to borrow against the rent guaranteed by the University. I would imagine that will show up as debt in the accounts until the rent income pays it off over a number of years.

So: we'll look like we are taking on a huge debt but it's all sensible
