At last Eddie sees some sense, now just need to call up Jacko and Goodey and I might get my faith back.

In the article Eddie says he wants to look at him train. Surely he has seen his inspirational kicking and organising. He has been at AzP enough.

Let's hope he doesn't get sent home when the squad is trimmed, as Ashey was.

Whilst it's always nice to be recognised, this has got to be a complete watse of time.

Is he going to be going to Japan? Unlikely.

Would we prefer he had a full summer off? Yes.

Would he have picked Robson/ Simpson/ Maunder ahead of him if we had made the final and they hadn't. Definitely.

Is it just me who thought that Wiggy was slow vs Clermont and Exeter? Seemed to take a long time to get the ball away and look around for options.

I thought the slow service prevented Saracens generated sufficient quick ball to trouble the opposition as much as it could.

not surprising really, there has been very little rotation at 9 for most of the season, he started most games and played 70 mins and there have been some tough games.
Dont understand why with Spenno on the bench

Adey - you don't suppose that Wiggy might actually want to join up with the England squad even for a non test match? He'll have already anticipated playing this weekend anyway and hopefully he gives a good showing.

I rarely agree with you Adey, but life is about exceptions and I too would rather Wiggy get a break rather than him show Jones how he trains only to be sent home.

Dolph, I've no doubt that he jumped at the chance to be part of the England set up and of course he'll give an excellent account of himself. That's not my point though.

If Jones was serious about him being around the squad more often he would have had in for the 6 Nations or the upcoming tour squad. He's not though, he's just out of other options.

Really sorry but I doubt Wigglesworth will be there as anything but back up if Care gets injured. Think Goode in the England camp for over a season. Jones doesn't change his mind; Robshaw can't play 7, Haskell is a 7, Hartley is the best hooker in the Premiership, etc

Still wish him the best and hope he can get the most out of the experience.

Right, so just because he wasn't one of the top 2 scrum halves in March he should just refuse to go and give up? I'm pretty sure Wiggy (like many top sportsmen) isn't wired like that and whenever he is written off decides instead to persevere because he believes in himself.

Re: Wiggy in England squad
Adey 22 May, 2017 22:07
You're missing the point. Wiggy would do whatever he could to be in the England set up long term. He's just not going to be. Too many younger options in front of him. He's there this weekend because they are not available.

Re: Wiggy in England squad
Dolph42 22 May, 2017 22:29
No Adey I'm really not. Assuming that he has been told he isn't a long term answer (and that's extremely doubtful) you still think he should just give up without trying. Maybe he knows deep down he won't make the RWC but maybe he also thinks the AIs or 6Ns is still achievable. Jones is a pragmatist at heart he wants to win both in the short and long term so Wiggy will get a fair go this week and then it's up to him to perform.

I disagree, Jones is short term only. No way are we getting anywhere near the World Cup with the approach he has taken to date with retaining all the dead wood. Look at NZ and Aus and compare their squads with ours. They are both properly building for 2019.....Jones is paying it lip service and when I see Hartley, Haskell, Wood, Youngs, Cole in any England squad it supports my statement.

Did you just describe 3 Lions as dead wood?! Wood I would agree with as he only came in this year due to injuries. But all the others (assuming fitness) have a good chance of performing to a high standard at the World Cup. Who would you have instead of them?

I'm not sure the Aus approach is working either domestically or internationally and would rather be in our position than there's.

No-one has said that. The comments were about Jones, not Wiggy. There can be no doubt that Wiggy will give it everything to impress Yoda, but the fact remains he ain't going to Argentina and would be better off on a beach than on a training pitch.

it will be £20k in his back pocket, got to be worth doing even only for 1 week

Excellent post although not sure I would put Cole and Youngs in that group. re Dolphs point about Lions the status of "a Lion makes" you neither the best at the time or the best subsequently. Haskell will be a lion. Dan Lydiate was a Lion. Neither of those facts endorse the idea that a Lion is the best player available even at fourth of fifth choice.

Like it or not Dan Cole is the best tighthead prop England have, because if he wasn't he would not be constantly picked, you cannot fault Eddie's record, and with some of the younger upcoming players, you still need experience to win the world cup, the likes of Brown and Wood will be competing for places in the future, as Nowell and Watson and even Daly are better options than Brown when fully fit, there is no question about that, as for Wood, Haskell,Robshaw and Clifford, are better options, Haskell is a top quality player. Dylan Hartley is our country's Captain, and currently Jamie George is his only challenge, maybe the likes of Cowan - Dickie will step up to challenge also over the next year or two tough to beat New Zealand any way but I feel experience will be crucial as well as new blood in 2019, I expect the likes of Clifford, and Tompkins and Earle to pushing for places in 2019, as they will be gaining top level experience over the next two years, I still cannot see any other tight head (England) being international quality by 2019, possibly Sinckler, but then you still need Cole

Wiggy doesn't make the cut for the tour ...but Loz , Nathan Earle , & Nick Isiekwe do

Re: Wiggy in England squad
Highbury Saracen 29 May, 2017 16:59
Bad luck for Wiggy but he has played a lot of rugby this season & could probably do with the rest
Nathan Nick & Loz probably have a bit more left in tank?

Wiggy unfortunately didn't perform well enough, Earle and isiekwe looked decent, didn't see enough of Loz,aside from that Goode had yet another great game only this time in barbarians colours
