My son (a bit of a data nerd) came across this fascinating analysis of the impact that each club's academy has had on the entire population of players in the Premiership. Saracens comes out of this very well

What a great bit of analysis, got to feel good at this.

Not too shabby for a group of mercenary salary cap breaking Safercens

Alex Shaw, the author, knows his stuff when it comes to youth rugby. It's a really great piece. The interesting part for me is the percentage of academy players in the in the senior setup, compared to others, such as Wasps. Clearly the academy training team are doing excellent work, for the whole of the Prem. It's such a shame we're a team of high paid saffas, otherwise we'd be top of the stats by miles.... oh, wait.

Yeah Alex is very very good and is my go to guy for youth rugby info, I think this article just shows how silly the notion that sarries is a team of foreign SA players is, not only do we have the most academy players in the premiership, our squad has the most academy players, that is something i am very proud of and you can see it in the numbers we provided the lions, we provide England, the U20 squad and the u18. The best thing is i can't see it stopping anytime soon as there are some very promising players in our academy at the moment and some promising u18 players

Overall, the most surprising fact seems to be that not one club has a majority of home-grown players, by whatever definition the analysis used.

Points win matches: tries win hearts and minds.

yes its surprising that Newcastle, Sale or Worcester who have produced large numbers of Academy players still have low %ages of them in their sides

Park team from London
Just a park team from London
European Champions
Just European champions

It's a shame that the second figure is a percentage rather than a number, as squads are not all the same size.

Surely it's easier to compare between the teams if they're a percentage because all the team have different squad sizes?

Either way Sarries come out of it well as we have one of the bigger squads according to most calculations, although the clubs' website lists sometimes do and sometimes don't include senior academy with the main squad thus making it hard to compare.

Of course the next question is to name all 30... I count 17 in the current Saracens squad and 6 in other current AP squads, so still 7 short!
