Westhorndonsarrie 12 October, 2017 04:29
Hello all, new to this message board.
Just have a couple of questions about Clermont away?

1.) Do we know when tickets will become available and where to purchase?
2.) Are people flying into Lyon (if using flights)? And how are you getting to Clermont from there?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Clermont Away
JuliaP 12 October, 2017 07:30
I am flying to Lyon on the Friday and then getting the train from there to Clermont. Well I say I am getting the train but I currently can't book the train due to some clitch inthe system. But if anyone else is flying in on the early flight from Luton and then hiring a car I amhappy to share petrol costs if you have a spare seat.

5:55 - 12:30 on Monday so just a 1/2 day off work

Re: Clermont Away

Which area of the city is best to stay in? I can see the stadium is out of town a bit, but any advice on orientation, travelling around, bars etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Is that Eurostar Jeremy ?

Saturday is daytime right - not an overnight train .

It's not that far out of town. Last time we went we stayed right in the centre (of Clermont, not Montferrand) and took the tram to the stadium, easy and cheap (ticket machines on the platforms), took about ten minutes. Walked back due to massive queues for the trams post-match.

The historic centre is very compact and easily walkable.

Delirium has more Belgian beers than you can shake a stick at, very lively and studenty. Be careful, those beers are dangerous!

There's a bar in the cathedral square that does a big Saracens welcome with discounted beer if you're wearing your black and red. You can't miss it, it'll be festooned with Sarries flags. It will also be showing any other European games that happen to be on't telly. It's nothing special otherwise though.

For something a little different grub-wise I can recommend Le Petit Tandoori, in a narrow old-town street in the pedestrianised zone. Not Indian, Pakistani. It really is very, very petit!

Thanks P44, that's great.

Our train gets in around 17.30 on Saturday, so looking forward to seeing a few Sarries supporters for beers etc.over the weekend.

Cheers!

With the brewery tour it is FREE!! If more than 10 Sarries go then it will be a Sarries only tour.

Re: Clermont Away
saracen1971 12 October, 2017 22:14
So we were asked in our trailer on Sunday a few questions about the trip for Clermont so this is obviously on peoples minds! We already have a few plans but we know we can't rest on our laurels.

Our good friend Ken Lane has arranged a lovely brewery tour for us around the wonderful micro brewery Bieres le plan B in 32 Avenue de la Libération . The Tour will start at 5pm and is free and will be SSA only providing at least 10 of us go(not a problem I suspect). It lasts an hour to an hour and half.

As they will need to know numbers I've set up a Facebook Event if you'd like to go please sign yourself up.

The Brewery is a 20 min walk, shortr taxi ride from Cafe Pascal where we will be holding the SSA Christmas Party!

Flights (Madrid to Clermont via Paris) and hotel (Mercure) now booked. Arriving saturday afternoon and leaving Monday at about the same time.

Not a convenient trip considering kick off time but its on the rugby bucket list and never no when we will draw them again.

Can´t wait.

And on this matter, can anyone shed light on the ticket situation? Their website shows nothing about this game. I've got an hotel, but would rather have a ticket before booking trains etc.

SSA in negotiations with the club about the allocation as of today. We will have details soon I hope and will share via all the usual channels

We will all need to sit together if we have even the slightest chance of being heard !

Agreed, and preferably quite near the pitch as well..

What are the usual channels in this case? Will SSA and sarries on tour coordinate on this one? Like you say, it makes sense to try and get 1 single group together.

Re: Clermont Away

Sarries on Tour? Do me a favour. Why would any organisation purportedly representing its club's supporters block some of said supporters on Twitter and Facebook? And does SoT give the opportunity for those who use it to benefit from the events and other things that come with the sponsorship of Calum Clark? Or is it only for a few self-appointed leaders?

For the record, I'm not a member of the SSA who, as far as I can see, does a great job and is democratic, has elected officials, a constitution and publishes its accounts. SoT's clandestine existence, made all the more so by those social media bans, looks to me, at least, like a few people after some freebies at the expense of others.

Steve, I've seen the MO first hand in a previous incarnation of the SSA where individuals took the mick with the finances and the fringe benefits. This smacks of the same.

Re: Clermont Away
primavesi 17 October, 2017 09:45
Lol, was just trying to find out what the plan for tickets is, but if people want to get personal gripes off their chests then fair enough as well.

I don´t really care who sources the tickets, I just want some reasonable seats with a decent number of sarries fans so we can support the team. I know that our travelling support is considerably up since Sot started and several players have commented that they have noticed and that it makes a difference.

Re: Clermont Away
To Mega Therion 17 October, 2017 10:04
I'd argue that support is up since SoT came about, although I am willing to concede that it is more visible and audible due to better concentration of the same.

The SoT website says "please follow on Facebook or Twitter" yet I know for a fact that they are blocking Saracens supporters who, presumably, don't share the world view of the two main protagonists. As for "..or just find one of us at the Wolfpack bus" it's not unlike buying a car from a vendor you'd meet at a motorway service station.

If you have some views on SoT/SSA (or the breakdown of roles between them), then please start a separate thread for it. If it can be done in a non-rant fashion by both (or however many) sides it might actually be helpful - but it's not helpful for this specific thread!

Am close to booking EuroStar and hotels as the prices seem fairly reasonable at the moment for Sat 16th to Mon 18th but am unsure of how quickly Sarries allocation will sell out so feel it's a bit of a gamble!

Anyone reckon there's a chance Sarries will run a package including ticket now that they've signed up with Thomas Cook Sport this season?

Thanks

what's our allocation been like at ASM in terms of seat location in the past? are away fans normally stuck up in the gods behind the sticks? what's the likelihood of getting 3 seats in a half-decent location together?

Makes no difference where you are - the stadium will literally bounce, you won't be able to hear yourself think and you're guaranteed to be with 'friends'!

ha! looking forward to a great couple of days alright!

i remember when they came to dublin to play at the rds a few years back. all the fans marched out of town to the ground and didn't stop singing the whole match - even when brock james left so many points (including last minute drop goal to win) on the pitch. great atmosphere and top night.

With almost 11,000 tickets holders and the fact that the EPCR forces to propose 10% in each category, this is decreasing a lot what you can offer to away supporters.

Re: Clermont Away
TonyTaff 22 October, 2017 10:29
The 10% of the Premium seats will probably be used by the club and never appear in any public offering.

its not just the stadium experience its the whole pre-game thing as well. Wearing a fez at St.Ettiene got me into at least 50 group pictures. not just bunches of lads, family groups of multiple generations. totally unreal.

after the game we had a beer in the stadium but over half the crowd were still there when we left, singing and chanting

Really looking forward to this one, I went to Clermont when we had them in our pool a couple of years ago, the atmosphere is without doubt, the best I have ever experienced in any rugby ground.Wear a fez around the town and at the ground you will be made to feel so welcome. If memory serves me right, a lot of the restaurants, bars etc are around Place de Jaude and from there it's a quick trip on the tram to the ground.

2 tickets booked in block 15 (Row 18). Quite a lot of sarries fans in that area according to the lady in the ticket office (who was very helpful).

It seems like we will be concentrated in 2 parts of the ground, so hopefully can make a bit of noise.
