High tackles are dangerous and bad...

...and with the players welfare in mind, the authorities, understandably, have decided to monitor highish tackles more actively and penalise more often.

But I am getting sick & tired of watching players wave 'invisible' yellow cards in the face of a referee demanding an opposition player to be sin binned and I am even more sick & tired of the hearing baying coming from supporters for anything above the nipple as a 'high tackle.'

The French (and I that includes non French nationals playing for French teams) are becoming experts at both and it is ruining the game.

Moreover, staying down after a tackle to draw sympathy from the referee and hopefully influence his (card making decision) is straight out of the WendyBall manual.

If I want to see any of the above I can go to Arsenal or Spurs.

I agree boomer, if I was a ref and I had somebody wave an invisible card to my face id get my yellow one out and send them to sin bin for that reason

Boomer - Happy Christmas firstly and how right you are. I'm afraid as money pours/dribbles into the game this may become more prevalent.

there was an interesting point on the Eggchasers, only partly tongue in cheek. They were talking about Curtley Beale who was claiming after his yellow card that he was trying to bat the ball upwards

They suggested that he was offered a double or nothing by the ref on the replay. Take his yellow card in good grace; no replay or take a chance with the 'batting it up'. If he was on the replay genuinely batting it up, then no yellow card. But as if it was he batted it down, they the yellow card is upgraded to red.

the same could be applied to a high tackle call. The player calling for it bets his own yellow against the player making the tackle. A guaranteed yellow is the result. Would stop most of the complaints in heir tracks

PS - i'm increasing of the opinion that a seat-belt tackle should not be considered a high tackle at all. There is no harm in it, and mostly happens because the tackled dips their head / shoulder going doewn

If I were the ref, in the dressing room, before the match, I would tell each team that I will not be tolerating appeals for sanction. I might even explicitly ask the scrum-halves if they understand. I wouldn't mention any proposed sanction.

The first time it occurred, I would tell the complainant to cease, review the incident (if necessary), apply that sanction then reverse it with a penalty against the complainant.

Something needs to be done for sure, and sadly Saracens players are not immune from this bad habit.

After it was deemed that May had committed a second intentional knock-on last week I saw a Saracens player appear to remind the ref that a second yellow is a red.

Yes that should be stamped out immediately, I didn't have an issue with that's twice sir, as that's simply a statement and a true one and andreline can take over sometimes. But these players asking for cards is too footballesque and really is not respect for oppositions, I'm not being funny a professional referee doesn't need reminding that two yellows make a red or that what a player has done warrants a card, that is entirely up the officials who know the laws
