Ash, again

Found an article with our Toulon exile from a few weeks ago. Can't do link, paywall anyway.

On the subject of 'snubbing' the Saxons: he'd played for the Saxons under Bomber and found it wasn't a route back into the first team; furthermore, Mellissa was expecting, having previously miscarried - some things are more important than rugby. [Mrs Taff (Mk I) miscarried, and, even though we already had one healthy child (unlike Ash), there was no way that I was going to allow my work to take me thousands of miles away during the last weeks of her pregnancy!]

On Yoda telling him his tackling technique was deficient: he explained that Sarries wanted him to complete the tackle but then promptly join the defensive line, but that he was prepared to stay longer in the tackle for England - he still wasn't picked.

He came across as a pleasant well-balanced bloke.

I would welcome him back.

I remember reading the article at the time - it was in the Times and I think I pasted the whole thing on this site somewhere.

Good luck to the guy. Despite all the problems at Toulon he seems to be scoring tries for fun and enjoying himself. Doubt if he'll want to come back to the UK but I'd love to have him back at Allianz. I think we have really missed our try-poacher this year.

Whilst I was doubtful to see Ash arrive, and very sorry to see him go, he should not want to return. He has moved on, found a set-up that suits him, without the visceral opinions that English club supporters have of him. He's probably paid a dream salary, has a great life-style, mostly in decent weather, and plays in front of passionate support. Comebacks rarely work out in any profession.

Liam William showed in the few matches he played for us he is Lions class.

IMO we miss him. We must only look forward.
