Interesting selection by us - Obviously don't know the skill set of the "guest's" but the selection almost implies we consider we have no chance of progressing - but actually if Saints lose and we win there is a very good chance .

I'm hoping to see a hat and a rabbit !

I think Exeter will be too strong but it will be a great experience for the lads an they will learn from it, you never though, Saracens always win when least expected so who knows

Dont mind that team at all. i always hope we stick hte AW cup side togehter in the first game and keep the same group baring injuires.

its that sort of continuity where our coaches can pick who goes into next years first rotation.

team selected is entirely consistent with the prior 3 rounds - and in fact consistent with almost every Anglo-Welsh side we have ever selected, even when we won it

Nice to see Exeter entering into the spirit of the competition with their development back-row

Assuming Quins get their losing bonus point tonight, Exeter's competition will be over before the game starts - as will ours if Saints win

With respect our (Exeter's) team is largely players who have featured in the A league rather than a mass import of first XVers (unlike Northampton). We also have a string of injuries so some positions are dictated rather than selected as well as a couple of young forwards away with the under 20s.

Either way it is likely to be a dead rubber as Northampton should have the beating of Quins but Quins should be strong enough to pick up a losing bp. It really is a bloody silly competition playing sides in other pools and being able to roll out the first XV come the final.

Safe journey to any of you coming down. It is jolly cold in Devon at present so wrap up well.

Not sure that *is* actually the spirit of the competition, I think it just gets treated that way because it's not that important. Similarly Rob Baxter tends to use it both to develop players but also bed in players returning from injury and keep players who aren't getting near the 1st XV match fit.

Yeah I agree with this I don't mind a bit of experience especially if they are returning from Injury but unlike saints who need this for any credibility to their season hence why it's a first team out there for them, be interesting to see who does go onto to win this competition

It was pretty frustrating watching the game last night and seeing what is virtually a full strength Saints squad beat Quins, it does make a mockery of the competition and must make all those replaced feel pretty special. It is good to see both Sarries and Exeter continue to keep to the spirit of the comp despite the importance of this match.

As an aside, I think that the Saints selection was entirely in keeping with their whole policy for the last few seasons, which has got them where they are. Academy, bringing players through the system and overall squad development have all been lip-service ideas. As a result far too many players have been left to wither on the vine, go elsewhere or simply fail to make progress when finally they get exposure.

Saints had to play their full strength team... Otherwise they would have nothing to play for this season, ultimately they don't play there youngsters then they will never be able to compete for European or Premiership titles.. plus to be honest it doesn't state in the rules.that it is development competition, we (Sarries) and most others use it as a development competition which is good but when you need a trophy to make your season respectable I can see why saints have played 13 internationals last night

Understand why they did it but dont agree with it would also rather see a scenario where there were more second 15 games
At least because we generally play academy &
Storm players our first team squad not involved in internationals get a break!
That break is needed when you have had the injuries we have had this season & last, and when you regularly qualify for latter stages of champions cup

European champions 2016 & 2017
