Delighted for Wiggy...

Well done Wiggy.

Probably Nic Stirzaker will be on the bench against Falcons.

He has signed for Bristol next season.

And Nathan Earle please.

Was Rotimi Segun taken off through injury yesterday or just a 40 minute runout to be available for this weekend?

More worrying is who’s playing hooker??!!

Hopefully we can somehow draft in Tom Lindsay.

Matt Gallagher did a decent job on the wing at Bristol last year. He looked to have added the proverbial extra half yard of pace against Dragons and from Sully's excellent report had another decent game at Chiefs.

Anyone dare to predict the team?

Perhaps Jamie will be released as Eddie has called up Luke Cowan - Dickie .

Wishful thinking !

Not sure when Schalk is back?

As far as Wiggy goes, does anyone else think that Jones has put himself in a very awkward position regarding both his "Finishers" tag and his refusal to blood Robson? Richard is surely a starter with his control, not the pacey finisher/Care type.

Whilst wishing Ben Youngs a full and speedy recovery I remain of the opinion that Wiggy is a far better all round 9. A better kicker (distance, accuracy and hang time), passer (more accurate off either hand, without the two step, able to pass from the ground). He is at least the equal in controlling the game, reading the game and covering in defence. The one clear deficit is in the threat of making a quick break (though how often has Youngs done this in the past 30 months?).

Robson has not yet proven himself consistently excellent at the top level (International/Europe/against top 4), in part because Wasps are only recently at this level but also because of Jones' stubbornness. The extremely promising Velacott has had even less top level exposure. Perhaps Ben's injury has already made Jones reconsider his stubbornness - good to see Cowan-Dickie being called up, hopefully Taylor will follow too, and all four will be given their chance in SA in summer.

Edit of to off! ugggh

There was a piece in the Rugby Paper in which Brits quoted he hoped to be back earlier than expected - possibly mid February.

Absolutely, a key position like this, experienced as Wiggy is he's not going to be able to step in at a weeks notice and get up to speed, especially against Wales who have their tails up at the moment and always lift their game to play England.
I can see Danny playing most of the game on Saturday if not all.

Just hope we don't suffer another injury at 9 or were knackered..!!

We should get Loz, Earle & possibly Isekewe back for Saturday. I can’t see Eddie playing Earle before Watson, Nowell or May

I think Wiggy is the only option given EJ’s refusal to give Robson an opportunity previously. Given England’s tactics, it’ll take Wiggy about millisecond to be ‘up to speed’ - get the ball, kick it high, run after it!

Wiggy as a direct replacement for Youngs may even start. If Danny Care had been the SH injured I wonder if someone like Robson would have got the call.

There was another thread where someone offered to eat their fez if Nathan started for England.

I think the same applies here....

Just out of interest when was the last time Wiggy played at International level?

I can see Wiggy starting... The way Eddie Jones brings on Care to use his pace and run rings around the Welsh in the latter stages

Harbinger: Just out of interest when was the last time Wiggy played at International level?

BBC says: Richard Wigglesworth of Saracens replaces him in the England squad. The 34-year-old has won 27 England caps but has not played a Test for his country since 2015.

To date results under Jones vindicate his selections even if they don’t always seem the right one to us on the outside.

I’m pretty sure calling RW up instead of eg Dan R will prove to be yet another example of this.

Re: England squad v Wales - Wiggy called up
Harbinger 07 February, 2018 14:06
No problem with him calling Wiggy up, great choice, experienced 9.

The main issue is that there is no third or fourth choice rotated scrum halves, no one has even been close to playing at 9 apart from Care and Youngs.

If anything should now happen to Care we're stuffed, the game has changed in the last few years, you need depth of squad.

2 eggs, 1 basket....?

Re: England squad v Wales - Wiggy called up
Dolph42 07 February, 2018 14:16
I think SCW said on Sunday the one thing he disagreed with Jones on was rarely calling up a third SH. Of course Jones has not really needed one as Youngs and Care have played all bar 3 minutes of the matches he has been in charge for.

Looking to the RWC I would like to see 3 players capable of playing 1/2/3/9/10 in the squad (essentially a 15 plus 2 benches), Wiggy is a fine option at SH and I'd rather have him in Japan than Robson/Maunder/Spencer.

Did anyone else pick up on Jones interview after the Italy match in which he said he would be calling up a "kicking scrum half", a clear nod to the skillset he wants and that Wiggy has in spades over the competition.

Re: England squad v Wales - Wiggy called up
Snig 07 February, 2018 14:46
I’m guessing Yoda wants a kicking scrum half (Young’s, Wiggy) and a running scrum half (Care, Robson) in his 23.
If that is the case he wouldn’t want a 3rd one in his squad as say now he may have 2 running’s scrum half’s which isn’t how he wants to play. So it would be either 2 in the squad or 4.
Personally with my tinted glasses I see someone like Spencer in as 3rd choice as he can be either a running or kicking scrum half.

Re: England squad v Wales - Wiggy called up
Seany_Boy0511 07 February, 2018 15:59
Blimey if Eddie Takes Ben Spencer as well now we'd be down to Tom Whiteley as starting Scrum Half... And not sure who would be a replacement... Although in 18 months time at the world cup that would be a good shout having Spencer in the England squad

Re: England squad v Wales - Wiggy called up

Would anyone know if Wiggy will be allowed back to us for the 2 Premiership games when England aren't playing (assuming that he is retained in the England squad of course) ? Was he in the wider squad that was announced at the start (or in the middle) of the season or is this still done even ? The RFU/Premiership agreement seems such a fluid one that I've lost track. Although Spencer is a fine player, it would be beneficial to have Wiggy back for the tricky games at Sale and Exeter.

My prediction is that unless Wiggy is unbelievable on Saturday, Robson will come into the squad for the next game. He'll have two weeks to get up to scratch rather than four days

Wiggy last played for England in Bomber's last match in charge. It was against Uruguay! In a dead rubber, as England had already been eliminated from the World Cup they were hosting.

An inglorious inclusion.

May he save a losing bonus point, off the bench, in this one!

Brown was very good.
England wouldn’t have won that game without Faz - world class.

Trouble is when you're 'world class' your performance is taken for granted - he wont care as long as they won.
