Has anyone heard about this scenario with the Ireland U20 hooker and coming to Sarries

1) Tadgh McElroy was evidently let go by Leinster - didn't like him
2) He signs for Sarries academy - or at least an offer is on the table
3) He is selected for Ireland U20 squad and is waiting at the airport to get on the plane
4) Irish officials become aware that he is offered a contract by Sarries
5) They offer him a deal with Connacht
6) He rings up his agent to see whether he should sign it or stay with his Sarries contract
7) Agent says don't sign for Connacht - play for time ??
8) He is left at the airport as the rest of the squad fly off for the game

blimey

Reading that interview it's no surprise Saracens wanted to sign him. Yet another young man very mature for his age. I really hope Tadgh you have a long and very successful career with 'the men in black'.

Sometimes it's easy to forget that these are scarcely more than schoolboys. If the story is as it reads, that sort of pressure, Sign today or be damned, is the worst sort of treatment of someone whom you want to employ. Just let him experience Eddie's England welcome once, and the combination of learning at Sarries, the prospect of England, and the end result of being set up for a career after rugby, and Ireland will be long way second in the reality of how to make the best of a short professional career as a rugby player.

The article Cork O'Sarrie has linked to reflects so well on our club. It seems the pushing for players to pursue further education/work experience continues, and there is plenty of other detail reinforcing the excellent culture that has been created.

One thing that stands out time and time again is the referral to interaction between 1st team squad and academy. You can see the attraction for young players where they are regarded as club members and work and play with the best. It does seem slightly bizarre that the up and coming players are treated virtually as second class members at other clubs. No wonder the relationships seem very strong across the board.

While not wanting to defend what the IFRU have done, there is an alternative narrative on the various Irish sites that is Tadgh is a problem child. Still our gain if we can get him settled and focused.

You mean Saracens educate and coach players? I thought they just paid them with buckets of cash and brown envelopes.
