Slightly OT: Stade v Clermont

Went to the game in Paris this evening, and after a pretty even first half that ended 13 all Stade blew Clermont away in the second half to win 50-13. Shades of Welford Road when Stade took a late kick to bring up the 50!
Absolutely stunning atmosphere, Clermont as loud as ever but matched by the Stade fans. Fantastic stadium (guess 20,000?) and would be a terrific place to go in Europe.
Game was a lot looser than most French fare, and noticeably how players regularly get away with being off their feet on either side. Referee not afraid to match players back 10 either!
Left wondering how Stade have got so low on the league, and how Clermont put 46 on us!

Given Clermont's form all season, and the fact that it sent us to Dublin, that result at AzP really was a shocker.

Looking at the current top 6/7 in the Top 14, plenty of chance for some new places to visit next season

Watched Racing play this weekend against Toulon. Have to say they would be my pick to win the ECC this year.

I went to that one yesterday. The U-arena is an astonishing venue, but the atmosphere was pretty artificial in comparison to the Stade game. Racing certainly have the power game but their scrum was under constant pressure. Handy to be able to get Dan Carter off the bench to steady the ship!
Ashy looked really sharp and hungry, but didn’t get enough ball towards the end. Trin Duc as wobbly as ever, replacement hooker lost 3 crucial throws.
Bumped into Census before the game and he was very chatty. Still going strong at 38, although just banned for 4 weeks and has an Achilles problem.

Imagine the whingeing if one of the Irish provinces doesn't win it this season!

I think that Leinster will dispose of Scarlets at home (yes ERC, that's at home). And I think that if ERC manage to give Racing Munster to dear old Nigel then that's Munster through as well.

I hope against hope that ERC give the Racing game to Wayne Barnes so that a French team may actually have a chance. But of course the Irish provinces' best friend can't get the Dublin game so I'm not optimistic.

Sorry Bard, I shouldn't have dragged it off topic. I'm glad you had a good time. It does look a superb stadium. I enjoyed the game too.

I was at the U arena too, and felt the atmosphere was not bad, considering the tightness of the game and the nature of the game. If you have a tight game at AzP the air becomes more charge, whereas we can all shout and cheer if we are scoring lots of tries and winning easily. It was a very tight game, and showed Toulon lost rather than Racing won (as reported in Midi Olympique etc). But if they stretch, Racing played some good moves, and could well shock Leinster who might expect to win easily. As for the Arena- please Mr Wray can we have one too? Best ground I've been to, MrsA given escort to lifts by hospitality staff, beer (and food, if you count Nutella pizza as food) outlets everywhere, very easy to get out of. Atmosphere all round far better than Jean Bouin.

I'd beg to differ on which ground had the best atmosphere, of course it helps when the home team put 50 points on the champions!
I've never seen as many food and drink outlets as there are at the U-Arena, not a queue anywhere I saw. A nice touch was having two of the players signing autographs and posing for photos in the kids corner (where I bumped into Census).
