Bristol have apparently 're-branded' to Bristol Bears. Not aware if this is a move towards Americanisation of rugby for the benefit of our new sponsors, probably not because there are already number of seemingly unrelated branding names L Tigers, E Chiefs, Wuss Warriors etc. Starts to make plain old Saracens, Wasps and Harlequins look good.

If you fancy a minor chuckle fest....... << Twitter >>

Still think they should have turned it around and called them Bear Bristols.

That's a bit unfair on Leicester, who have been know locally as the Tigers for most of their history. It was the nickname of the Leicestershire Regiment since a campaign in India in the early 1800s.

They might want to revisit that naming convention. It reminds me of happy days when I was employed by our one time shirt sponsor Man Investments. They set up an intra net function which they called "Man World" with a similarly unintended outcome!

Another reason to be grateful that we were named back in the 19th century with something that can stick as a 'brand' in the 21st! With the departure of SAIL, I hope we are now safe as Saracens until at least the 22nd century!

For me its always been slightly (actually very) distracting to see 'Downton' plastered all over Gloucester players backsides, especially at scrum time ..... The side of their shorts wouldnt have been too bad, but you would think someone would have realised .....!!!? hey ho.

Maybe Bear Bristols will have a rethink ...... I wonder if they will have it written across their chests? (Sm100)
