The new lower tackle-height trial law will prevent the one-low, one-high, tackle system being deployed, potentially resulting in a switch to 'big hits', producing a perverse outcome.

His main message is "Fewer matches".

Cogently argued. He's a bright lad.

Alistair Hargreaves is quoted in a parallel article to similar effect.

Successful hills are here to stay
Everything must be this way
Gentle streets where people play
Welcome to the Soft Parade

Wouldn’t it be great if the RFU listened to the players, it seems such an obvious solution? One of my worries is how on earth does a very big guy tackle a small guy? All the small guy carrying the ball needs to do when he sees the very big tackler coming at him is reduce his height, ie duck, and it makes a now legal tackle almost impossible, I foresee a lot of penalties following shocked gasps from the crowd. No one wants to see dangerous tackles such as a clothesline but I don’t think the new trialling laws are the right answer.

to my mind the amount of actual injuries would be reduced if the attacking player got NO PROTECTION at all if he ducks on the basis he is trying to get the tackler hurt or carded
