MMC Not for England

According to today's Telegraph, he's made it clear to England rugby that he isn't interested. Still more to be achieved at Sarries and likes working with his coaching group.

Would a cynic suggest that like Faz, he looked at Gussie's experience of Twickenham and saw grass that was less green?

Points win matches: tries win hearts and minds.

To be fair, as our grass aint real it's always going to look greener. I get your point though. It's never easy to gauge how Small is feeling but he does seem genuinely happy doing what he's doing so probably doesn't feel the need to change.

The article doesn't even suggest that Smally has even been considered by England - perhaps he hasn't - nor does it suggest he has even spoken with England about it.

It just states he has renewed with Saracens and by virtue of that he has ruled himself out of the England role !

Speculative journalism.

Makes for a good headline though .

He always strikes me as someone who doesn't particularly like the limelight (hence why Alex S is mostly put forward for TV stuff) so England would be a big no! Now, Ireland in a few years .......

Some coaches just enjoy the day to role of working with players and bringing them on moulding them to the way they want the game to be played. They build relationships, forge friendships all very difficult to achieve I would suggest in the international setup.
You do have to wander what the international coaches do for 9 months of the year (Sm100)

Jim if you listed to this weeks ruck podcast on the Times - they make exactly that point! And they say thats why England coaches get fed up! They talked about Stuart Lancaster trying to keep his hand in by coaching junior level whilst he was at England......

Agree with that Jim 55. Baxter also seems like a coach like that. For some coaches being a National coach isn't the be all and end all. For others it might be part of the plan but a ways down the track. Sarries have done extremely well to have such a talented bunch of coaches who are empowered by such a quality DoR ... even if we do sign Daly!

It sounds a grand job. For 9 months, you watch rugby on freebies; as long as you use technology to record your observations real time, you can then have a whale of a time in the clubhouse.

On Monday morning, your PA translates your ramblings into coherent text, which makes you seem like a memory master when you visit a club's training in midweek!
