Just imagine the fallout if Owen had made those remarks after the game about the ref. I’d be amazed if gets away it. He quite bizarrely ended his rant by saying ‘not that we are using the ref as an excuse’!

Heat of the moment possibly,

You could say imagine what the world would have said if Farrell did what O Mahony did... Swings and roundabouts in this sport unfortunately

Laws broken, but he is correct. That cheap hit on Hogg arguably won the game. The following try was straight through the hole you'd expect the best full back in the competition to be filling

Scotland were rubbish. All this talk of referees and late hits (do the ones on Sexton not count?) is just a distraction for a very poor team performance.

It rarely comes down to one incident (RoG chasing and clattering the opposition in the Lions tour probably being the clearest in my memory) but Seymours brain-fart, Scotlands inability to used the over-laps they kept creating in the first half, the lack of ambition in their game close to the line, etc much clearer candidates. Just very poor stuff from a team I had high hopes of this season.

Scotland were poor in execution in the first half and truly dreadful in the second.

The ref was inconsistent as all refs (humans) are but it was not him that dropped the ball on every furrow forward Scotland made in the second half.

Ireland were only average but managed the game in the second half brilliantly.
